Can't tell what kind of car this convert is, but looks like it has faux Cadillac taillights -- don't remembe these, anyone know more?

It's a Hudson.....

 

It does look like around a '52 Hudson, but those taillights look like accessories, here is a photo of a 52 Hudson under restoration -- note that the taillight holes are low on the fenders

The car in question isn't a '52. It's a '54 Hudson.

 

You may well be right, but this news will probably come as a surprise to Russell and Vicki, who think that they are restoring a '52 Hudson: from their website:

I think he is referring to the 54 Hudson at the drive in shown in the first picture, not the other one that is indeed a 52

 

It's not a '54 Hudson. It's an earlier "Step-Down" Hudson, perhaps a '52, with a custom or accessory taillight.

 

Not a man to be taken by surprise.

 

Are you under the impression that the '53 and '54's weren't the same "step down" design as the previous models? They were. The design change was in '55.

I agree that after further review(this discussion is about the car in the drive-in not somebody's '52 project) this is not a '54. I have seen those tail lights somewhere though and will continue to try to figure it out.

Last week I was watching the 60's show "Hazel." There was an airport scene and every car in the shot was a Ford Product, mostly T-Birds. The show was produced by FOMCO. It was cool.

Here it is. Courtesy Motors "Hudson Jet" of the early '50's. That was driving me crazy

 

I'm guessing Pasadena, or Altadena, or maybe Sunland, Arcadia, because those look like the San Gabriel Mountains in the background, not so many mountains with clear firebreaks in them like the San Gabriels...and the architecture sort of looks like Pasadena, but just a guess...

The hills and firebreaks looked like Glendale or Pasadena to me.

Looks like someone used 51-53 Cad tail lights and part of its sheet metal. Did away with the backup lights and filled in.

Ross, that is a SUPERVISOR'S car , not a cab . In Los Angles as well as several other good sized cities in the 50's and early 60's National Cab out of Chicago was able to "Franchise " the " Yellow cab " name . Los Angles was actually one of the cities as well as Washington D C that used the "Franchised " Yellow Cab logo and the distinct Yellow color used on the cabs itself .

Driving a Taxi was quite different then . You had shoe inspections , a clean uniform to wear , and you were to wear a Chauffers hat too. hey,I started in Richmond Virginia under a Franchised Yellow cab operation . two years later , shoot , we got away with pretty much anything dress wise . You grab a cab in D C today , heck, yer damn lucky if the Pakistani , Iranian , Jordanian , Saudi Arabian , or Brizillian can even understand English or really know the taxi zones in D C ! scrubba

 

At least it wasn't a Nash Metropolitan cab

Speaking of Hudsons....









I remember when my dad brought home a new Hudson Jet. It was like the one in the advertisement above. His was more of a burgundy than red, but had the black top and the skirts. Each evening he wold remove he skirts and bring them inside so nobody would steal them. I really thought that little car was the coolest thing ever. Still would love to have one.....
