rear suspension

    Hey guys-
    looking to hook up a chevy 10 bolt in the rear of my 31 sedan project. Can't use the leaf springs as I removed the last 12 inches of the frame. was going to use coil springs, radius rods and a panhard bar. now I am thinking that I may use air bags. they look like they install the same as the coils. just weld on the bag mounts like I was going to do the coils and everything else stays the same . Am I missing something? any thoughts either way? your experience is greatly appreciated.

  2. It's your car build it the way you want. But why put air bags in just the rear? I know on my Tudor Model A there is not much room for anything. That's why I used coil overs in the rear. Airbags will be more money plus you need room for a air tank and compressor.

    can't use leaf spring, or don't want to use leaf spring?

    I got a quote on custom made rear springs and it was around 350 a side. trying to do this old school and on a budget like the old days junkyard runs ect. the leafs seem to be out of budget. I can do the rear coils for around 400 all in. unless I am missing something.

    does that work the same in the rear as it does in the front? I was going to do that in the front. did not know it could be done in the rear. how does it work?

    I have a early built rod, 30 chev roadster pickup, that started off in 1959 with Ford transverse spring in the rear, but then he swapped to soft rear coils in early 60s.

    Go for the coils. These days, with so many soft coils in boneyards from tiny cars, it should be easier to find the right ones, compared to back then.

    yes, same front and rear. do a search. look at how a model A chassis was originally built.

    You have room for bags?? Then you have room for coils. they are free in most cases and are easy to change out for ride

    Look at AFCO/Speedway racing coils. you can get them any size or spring rate.
     
  14. How about quarter eliptics on the rear?
