    Here it is. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=734896

It got all the wanna be's out of the closet.:D Because, originally, 90% of the hot rods were FORDS. That's it. That's what guys (old timers) first fell in love with.

Well, it was originally about what I was doing to get this ugly little bucket up to not being so ugly anymore. And, truth be told, since it hasn't really been shut off too often in it's first week on the road, I haven't really done too much updating. More importantly though, it's led to a lot of good discussion about what it takes to put these cars together nicely, some good discussions on Favorite cars from the era, some excellent delineation on what works on what era with these cars, and it seems to have brought folks out of the woodwork that other wise would have never admitted they like these cars. All that wrapped up in a dose or two of utter silliness... I call that a good thing!

In the mean time, although I have had to press this car into daily service, it's FAR from done, so updates will happen more frequently soon.

    Gary,
Take the Doc's advice. The couple of months will pass quickly. Be well. Being in California in a couple of months it will still be roadster weather. Here in New England we'll be jealous.

Chip, whats happening on the 4-71 front? Any joy? That would be the PERFECT addition to this deal.

Ya, it will. I need to convince it's owner that it needs to be on the bucket though... It's taking a bit of work but I think I'm getting him there. Might be a bit yet though. In the mean time I'm trying to figure out packaging a good looking fuel line, pressure regulator and filter deal for the stock mechanical pump. Oh, that and a scoop of some sort.

"I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to cut wild flowers..." we all know what comes next:p

The 4-71 is right on so many levels, not only will it look cool as hell, and add a ton to the "period" vibe, its the perfect addition to a 8.5/1 350 as well. This is one (of a very few) case where a 30/30 would be a good choice. It would work great with a 10% over 4-71, if you want to stay all period...

as far as a scoop, copy one of the Brizio ones in glass. Wouldn't be that hard to make a mold.

Have I posted a picture of the Dennis DeBenediectus roadster lately?

Anyway he told me after this picture was taken in '65 he put a blower on it then drove it from the Bay area to Oklahoma for the first NSRA Nationals.

'65 is the earliest photo I have of the cast aluminum Cal Custom scoop as well, on Fred Marascos roadster. I haven't seen any ads earlier than that either. A little too new, I think.

Heres something more like what I am thinking of, and it doesnt leave you trying to hunt up vintage Cal Custom $$$ stuff that is technically too modern anyway...

Now, I realize these Brizio scoops date from the late sixties, but similar handmade fiberglass and aluminum scoops were commonplace on dragsters right in your early sixties time frame. It keeping with your 1963 theme, I'd do glass, as it was "hot" at that time...

That's like mine, not early 60's but similar and has been done forever. Actually, never mind. I'm just going to sit back and see what Louver's comes up with. He's got a good handle on it.

    I thought I knew what a t bucket was.
Here is my bucket of bolts and steel.
In the end it is style that someone dreamed of (unless it was anothers dream that someone bought) and built.
Not all may like it, may peg it to a year, may knock it, may praise it, but it's your dream.
    So what is traditional?

Is this George Goodrich? I dig your car massively! If this is, your car in Rod & Custom earlier this year was a major contributing factor to my car being in my hands at this point!

Yeah, George, I've been digging this car of yours since I first saw it! A little earlier build style than I'd go for, but you nailed the proportions on this so well! Bitchin'!!!!

Ha ha ha! Ya computers will do that sometimes. I think these guys all think I know what I'm doing on one, but I know better.

Like I said, your car has popped up here on the H.A.M.B. several times in pictures as your build has progressed and I have been very impressed. Seeing it in the magazines earlier this year really did quite a number on "tipping me over the edge" on the purchase of my car. Not that I needed THAT big a push, but it was one of those "do I really need this?" moments, and bingo there your car was.

Thank you for contributing to this thread!

Ok, well, Hot Rod Ron showed up at my door this morning with a couple of scoops to try. One is an original that he and I have tried to I.D. for quite awhile now, and the other is a current offering made from it but changed just slightly by O'Brian's Truckers. Now, after loading the pictures, I'm not quite a jazzed about it as I was in person today. It does have the right shape for the era, but I'm thinking it's just a hair small still. A very cool piece though.

The other half of the day, I was invited to the local chapter of "The Over The Hill Gang's" picnic this year by my buddy (other dad, if you will) Ron Olmstead. I took Hot Rod Ron as my guest and we took the 'Bucket out on the freeway for the first time... Damn, what a rush!!! Phoenix traffic is all marked at 65 mph, but honestly travels at more like 80ish, and we stayed right out ahead of the deal. FUN FUN FUN!!! We drove a good 35 miles each way to the other side of town to meet up with every body, and hopefully Ron can figure out how to load the video he shot on the way there.

Our inviter Ron Olmstead had a bit of over heating issues with his beautiful little '34 pick up, but his '40 shown like a diamond. Most of the cars we met up with were a bit too O/T for here in particular, but it is always a ball to cruise in a huge group of cars. Our hosts home was huge and beautiful, and his garages were about six time the size of my house, let alone my garage. Lot's of good food, most everybody wanted to know where Judy was, (she was quite popular last time we had an outing with this group!) and the "Bucket of Ugly" got to hob nob on probably the most expensive grass it will ever be on with a whole huge group of nicely finished cars. An afternoon well spent!
