Vintage shots from days gone by!

RE: #81302 - the Studebaker building.
Historically the symbols were considered the (American)Indian good luck/good fortune sign. It could be seen almost everywhere.
It was that way until it was corrupted and became the sign of evil.

 

The legs of the symbol are turned the opposite direction of the Nazi swastika. They are for good luck.

 

When I was assigned to Misawa AB, Japan in 1957, our Tac Recon squadron used the RB-57. They were subsequently replaced by RF-84Fs, and before I left in 1960 they were using the RF-101.

 

Cool action shots with the Hustler! This is what I think of when remembering this plane...speed in every aspect.

 

Correct, a quick check of the internet, this symbol goes back well over 3000 years, long before Nazi Germany.

And yes again, in most all cases, it's a good luck symbol.
Also, the legs have been used in both directions meaning much the same thing, along with four dots within the legs.

One thing N.G. "sometimes" did was to rotate the symbol 45 degrees. Just like Hitler...take something good and make it a bad thing..

The question is...why did Studebaker use the symbol knowing about Hitler ? Or...since Studebaker was around before Hitler took over and built Nazi Germany...did they use it back that far and just not get away from it ?

Hope you don't mind me posting some stuff from the KY archives. I went through the entire set of Lafayette Studio images a few months ago looking for Model A and AA images and found these.

I've been holding on to these pics for a while because they require some work to get them in an appropriate size for posting on this forum. The original images are between 5-8mb! That being said, they are some of the cooler most high resolution pictures I have found of Model A's.
