History A Tip of the Hat to the 2 door Hardtop.

I've been told there's a low mileage wagon like that stashed in a garage in the Downriver area of greater Detroit. Every so often I remind the guy to look it up but we know how that goes sometimes. Speaking of "...with all the windows down...", on my 61 spt cpe (bubble top) when they're all down the rear glass guide hangs down at least 1/4" and it bugs the shit outta me. Looks like something's missing. Does that detail bother anyone else or am I simply too picky?

 

Had to add a Stude to the mix.

Yes I love Hardtop's. Here is my 57 under construction. Don't laugh at the wheels, something had to hold it up. Sleeping next to it is my 51 Hardtop. The 57 Mercury Voyager wagon is not mine but on my shopping list. Best looking wagon of all and the hardest to come by it seems.

I have always liked the 62 - 64 Impala's with the convert bows for that extra little touch of style.
This is my buddies 62 with a Caddy LSA intercooled blower motor.

 

An English hardtop is a rare bird.

 

So that's where the Rambler Marlin got that roofline.

I have to say the same. I've owned 4 of them over the years, back when They were more common and affordable.

 

Hope I did'nt sound like an A- hole. The roofline is the first thing that struck me about the car. I think it's a cool little car. What is it?

 

You're not an A-Hole at all. It's an English Ford Consul Capri, a 1963 model but they came out in 1961 and the Rambler Tarpon showcar of which the Marlin is based wasn't shown until 1964, so the Capri was definitely the first to debut, but I don't know which designer was first to pen the roofline, Roy Brown (Capri) or Richard Teague (Marlin.)
I was wrong about the Consul Capri's designer, it was Colin Neale who penned it.

Wow, that is cool. Do you have a build thread on it besides this? That's gotta be a rare bird; I couldn't find pictures of any other ones out there.

 

And you won't find another. It's a home built one off. The way it's painted looks like it's wearing a Gem Top canopy.

I was going to comment on the funky paint and noticed that that was standard paint job for the Belvedere. When was it originally built? That rust in the "before" picture looks like it's been there for a while.
