Art & Inspiration Candy, Lace, Flake, Flames... wanna see WILD custom paint...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by kustombuilder, Apr 13, 2008.

  1. Has anyone ever used HOK metajuls instead of flake or combined it with flake? One of the guys from coast airbrush was telling me that Craig Frasier used metajuls as a base and no flake at all on that bike he built for the SEMA show a couple of years ago. Anyone have any experience with the stuff?

I use it once in a while. The reflectivity of the stuff is amazing! Much more brilliant than any other base flake I've used.
It IS very expensive, though. To save a bit, I shoot a regular silver or gold base, then put a bit of the Metajules in with the first coat of my Candy, then regular candy and clear on top of that. Still get the briliant flake, but use WAYYY less material.
Oh...and the larger versions of the flake, are too large for a regular 1.4 tip spray gun, it doesn'e even want to go through a paint filter. So use the smaller version for standard guns, and airbrush.

  3. That's a great tip!

Came upon this thread last week, just got through it. I was ambivalent to a lotta this stuff before. But I gotta say, after seeing all these pics, I'm a believer.

Thanks we're going to scallop it in a color to bring the top and bottom together, in the right light the colors are really close, then other times like the picture, they are worlds apart.
