Dagmar (1921-2001): Bombshell who became a household name in the early 1950s on "Broadway Open House"; her dumb blonde act became so popular she received 2,000 fan letters a week. The show was hosted by Jerry Lester and Morey Amsterdam, later of "The Dick Van Dyke Show"
fame. She was famous for making a record with Frank Sinatra, which is considered Sinatra's worst recording, "Mama Will Bark" in 1952.

This is Dagmar from which the Caddie bumpers got the name.

  13. Detroit cops shooting my Grandfather's wooden hulled triple-masted schooner, the "J.T. Wing" which was the last of it's kind to be used commercially on the Great Lakes. He used it for hauling lumber for his company, Braun Lumber Corporation and was later used as a museum at Belle Isle on the Detroit River. It started to dry rot so, the city workers filled it with 55 gallon drums of fuel oil and then the cops blasted it with Thompson sub-machine guns 'til it burst into flames and was destroyed.

31Dodger, thanks for the pics, history, and details of the end of the J.T. Wing. Our cub scout pack toured it when it was on Belle Isle in the late 1940s. I always wondered what happened to it.

The fifties is the easy answer. This one is the first car A.J. Watson built on his own. On it's first time out, Pat Flaherty drove it to victory at Indy in 1956. He set a new lap record at 146mph.

You need gorrilla arms to muscle these things around the track. This is Tony Bettenhausen in the Kurtis Kraft with a Novi V-8, 1957

A.J. Foyt won in 1961 and again 1964. That would be the last time one of these beautiful roadsters would win Indy.

    1961 A.J.
