I was inspired by teddyp's Ford motors in non Ford bodies to do this thread. A lot of us have Fords with GM, Mopar, etc engines in them, anybody care to show what sleepers are under the blue oval? :D

As much as a Ford guy as I am, I would have kept the Olds motor, that just sounds wicked cool. To each his own though.

I think the only thing that Henry Ford did wrong was to not invent the small block chevy. I know I'm going to catch it for that statement.

I just bought a 47 ford convertible for my wife. It's all chevy under the bottom. It's clipped chevy, the rearend is chevy and the motor and trans. That was a big buying point for me.

She took it to a show this weekend and the first thing one of the guys says to me is does it have a chevy in it. I said of course. He's a die hard ford guy.

I also have a Ford truck with and Olds motor.

I´d like to put a 300 I6 ford into a 49 Chevy just because I think it would be cool and torquey.
I agree with the statement, that the only thing Ford did wrong was to let Duntov go and because of this, did not invent the sbc. I´ve read somewhere that Duntov actually told Henry Ford they needed an OHV V8, but Ford was too greedy ( as always) so Duntov went to GM.Maybe I´m wrong, but that´s how I recall it... Also a small Chevy looks like a direct bolt in replacement for a flathead. The 55-57s even had the front motor mounts.
Anyway, I wrenched on several engines, Mopars, Chevy, Nailheads, Rocket, but what I don´t understand is, that Ford had so much different engine designs in the same cui range than anyone else... not cheap and not easy fo the customers.
But then, my 31 model A will get an 8BA when it´ll be the time to replace the banger... but for now I just love to cadillac around in the model A, haha

Have a 454 in my '50 F1. Previous owner put it in. Since then I have put in a comp cam, intake carb ect. Only issue i have is keeping the ass end planted :) Narrowed 9" with some pretty decent sized Hoosiers under it and ass end still goes sideways every time I tromp on the pedal 4 link is next i think

To the diehard Ford in a Ford guy, ANYTHING BUT a SBC is OK. Early Olds, smiles and thumbs, early Caddy, more of the same, Nailhead or HEMI you might even get blown. But under no circustance is it OK to drop a BBC or SBC in it. A 348/409 'W' motor is almost acceptable, but once they figure out it too is a Chevy, look out!!

  10. 307 Chevy in my '38 Ford truck is painted Ford flathead green with "Ford Experimental OHV" on the valve covers and a cock and bull story about the SBC being based on the design of the ultra-rare Ford Experimental OHV.

392 Hemi in my '47 Ford. Been in there since the 60's. No way it's coming out - not for long anyways.

The hemi fits in there so nice it almost looks like Henry may have planned it that way.

  16. Ford had an OHV (the Y-Block) before the SBC was available in a vehicle (1954 vs. 1955).

Zora went to GM after the introduction to the SBC. He also wasn't a Ford employee, despite the development of the ARDUN heads for the Flathead.

After 3 FE390s in my '57 F100, I got offered a street-strip Olds 350... that one let a piston go right before our maiden voyage... rebuilt another Olds 350, swapped most of the hot rod goodies from one to the other, scrubbed 'n painted, had a "fun" time working that back in to the cowl... Runs to this day...

Sorry dude, I'm calling BS. Pretty sure Duntov never worked for Ford, and positive that Ed Cole designed the SBC.

Add me to the list of the sbc in a Ford "way overdone" crowd. Now the Olds, Hemi, Nailhead swap, you've got my attention. C'mon, show some imagination.

That's what I'm saying, yeah I have a SBC in my truck, but I would love to have an Olds, Caddy or Hemi engine in my truck, it would definitely turn heads. When I get the chance to rebuild my truck, hopefully it'll have a unique power plant in it.
