Gene, Melvin and Hubert Platt (with his back to the camera) reminiscing about the old days when they raced together wish I had a tape recorder. Fred Bear another gasser great spent a lot of time with Gene during the day.[IMG]

Thanks Quain for the updates and photos of Gene and the crew.

What a honor it is for him and all that are involved.

Don't forget that we have the Gasser Finals coming up on November 16th at Greer Dragway! Lot's of wild gasser action with special parking for hot rods and bikes! Quain says he's ready for some guard rail to guard rail action! Here's the HAMB thread link for the event.

Gene Cromer is planning to run the moonlighter at this event. This will be the first time the Moonlighter has been in eliminations in over 40 years.

The Moonlighter looks as good on a cloudy day as it does on a sunny day. It's been my desktop pic for months now. That is cool Quain, hope for some video!

I can't begin to describe how cool this whole story is. You would have to be world class writer to come up with all the little facinating pieces. Its one thing to be married to your sweetheart all this time but amazing to have your best friend with you too!

Now Quain....get his grandson in a drivers seat!

My "Hell Yeah" meter just pegged while reading Quain's comment. I can only hope that someone records this event on state of the art video as opposed to cell phone images. To see Gene and the Moonlighter in action in a crisp, clear video with good audio would be a major treat. I already have two Moonlighter t-shirts (probably the only ones in Hawaii:D) but if you generate another t shirt offering after this meet, especially with the Moonlighter "front wheels up" on launch, I'll buy two more. hint hint:D

  13. Some more hall of fame pictures. Misplaced my card.
This was one of the best weekends We spent this year.Gene I thank you for letting us share. And for anyone that can spend time with Melvin, Don't pass up the opportunity. This guy is an encyclopedia of old drag racing history, especially the ford drag team.Seems he drove a truck for them when not helping Gene. There was a story about Gene almost doing the qualifying for some guy by the name of Connie with a cammer in a funny car.

Thank's for the pic's Ed, hope to see you this Saturday for Cromers first pass in eliminations in over 40 years. I'm already getting goose bumps.

  15. Quain, this is going to be the big payoff for all the hard work that went into the resurrection of the Moonlighter.

Good to see you and all the crew at Masons yesterday and looking forward to the fun & games at Greer. HRP

  16. Not only spent the weekend with Gene and Melvin, but was able to talk with childhood hero Herb Platt.

Man I'm so looking forward to the video of this event! I'm no spring chicken and recognize my reflexes might not be what they used to be, but I'm betting it'll all come back to Gene when he stages the first time. Some things just get into your blood. Give 'em hell Gene!
