Cool story. I haven't seen an image of an ATF in years, but my dad was stationed on a sister ship, the USS Quapaw (ATF-110) in 1956. I was an 8-year old then, but can still remember visits to the ship and the kindness of one of my dad's pals (one of the ship's machinists) who fab'd two axles for lawn mower wheels and gave them to me for Christmas one year. I used them to make a coaster car. Ships in this class were named for Native American tribes and provided Fleet towing, salvage, rescue and repair. Gary

Eastbound Lehigh Valley train headed by LV #2089, a 4-6-2 engine, is shown here leaving Buffalo in 1940. In today's world the location is where I-190 crosses Bailey Ave. The LV right-of-way in the mid fifties became I-190 from roughly Dingens and S. Ogden to downtown Buffalo.

Only partially...... It did go "aero".:D

BUT... to get serious - All of these pictures (except the few tragic ones) show a great sense of pride found in days gone by. I for one wish we could at least recapture some of it!! Look at the new/old cars with the owner posed beside them. It was a major investment and accomplishment in their lives. The military pictures also show great pride.
    YES the pride shows.:)
