how many doors does it take to fix a rusty old model T? Yes you guessed it more than two! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I have so many old contacts in Hershey from going to medical school there, that they send me this magazine every year. An interesting effect is the flash from my camera looks like the car is actually got its headlights on! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yes sir as am I! I was busy with another custom bike. I will be finishing the bike after my 10 year recertification, which is on November 8. I will be splitting time between the hot Rod and the chopper until the chopper is complete. I'm going to get my front end and wheels today I'm pretty excited! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. question on this area... Would you strengthen or chop this down/strengthen? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I think it's plenty strong enough the way it is, however I WOULD weld around surfaces where the cross member ties into the rails. Doors are looking promising!
Aah thank you sensai... So u wouldn't box underneath? Also u wouldn't "clean it up with a plasma? Or is that not classic looking? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Personally, I wouldn't. There's nothing wrong with adding material to strengthen the C channel, but it's a flathead, not a blown SBC. It's just my opinion, but I would leave the frame unboxed. As far as "cleaning" I wouldn't. I like seeing the raw edges of the stamped steel that came out of the machines the way the factory made them. Maybe it's just me, but I really DIG the industrial "as Henry intended" look to raw parts. The most I'd do is hand file any rough edges so help with paint adhesion.
So u wouldn't box any of it then? Not even with one of those kits for the inner portion of the frame?
it turns easy as it was greased up and stored indoors... Lucky for me Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
probably will leave this intact, and follow a tech link by Sam-I-am... Or should I split it? Decisions, decisions... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I assume these are mechanical brakes... I need to rebuild, so was going to switch to juice brakes... Any ideas? I'd like to use finned drums/Lincoln style but what all does it entail? CTK your input is welcomed! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I want to drop the axle, or is this ok and use a rubber rake? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I have only come across your build this past week and it is great to see where you are now. The Tudor was a total POS at the start and because of your willingness to listen and learn is well on its way to being a bitchin Hot Rod. Dropping the A axle would be the way to go and will help with the overall rake of the car, last thing you want is to have tyre rake with the nose up and tail down looking like a dog dragging his arse. Also your best bet is to run hydraulic brakes '39 and later. Find yourself a pair of '37-41 round back spindles or later '42-'48 spindles. That way brake backing plates don't need modifying.
Thank you for the input... So even with "bigs and littles" on offset rims u think the stance might be off? I am going with 16" wheels up front and 17" in back...
Tyre rake only goes so far. On a tudor the bulk of the rear body can negate the rake of tyres especially if the body is level or angled backwards. Suspension setup is a very important factor on how the rake is perceived. Best option is to drop the axle and have the original spring reset or buy a new lowered spring. Running the stock model A axle and spring will give you a nose high or level ride, worst still an arse dragger. Plan both the front and rear suspension around the tyre heights. I drew this to give an idea of what I mean. Front tyres 26" rears 30".
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this in detail. As I draw closer I will definitely tap into you as a resource for this, I appreciate it. Please also feel free to comment when I get there! I will be picking up my wheels this week. I will have more dimensions as the tires come in and are mounted...
Thank you so much for this... I noticed this also! However the curve in the doors makes up the difference. So they appear close to spot on... If not I will need to trim them, though not ideal, a viable solution IMO unless you are thinking of something else as a solution? Also the ratty doors came with the T, and the extra door was advertised as a Tudor. Worse case scenario I will cannibalize it to fix the originals... What do you think?
need to scrape off 80 year old goo with a screw driver prior to blasting... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
steering linkage in place... Will need to switch to cross steer for less bump steer... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
