Looks like part of the bridge deck has been washed off and replaced. If you look at the pier supports, they were originally 2 column piers. However, a third column has been added at the nearest pier in the photo. And, when the decking was replaced, it was placed so that part of the original pier cap was left exposed. The decking was shifted so that part of it rests on the new column. There had to be a reason for doing that, but who knows why? You can see where the original decking ends - just about even with the second pier from the far bank, near the truck's rear tires.

 

Better yet... how do you think he's going to get down?

 

I reckon it was re-aligned for the concrete piers in the foreground going in; doesn't look like it was a washout, maybe its a temporary crossing pending replacement by a higher, straighter bridge.This one was not so obviously Australian; sure, the timber trestles are like you'ld find in the mountain ash forests, but that isn't an Austin, Bedford or Commer, is it?

 

But, you all missed her crooked toe!

I watched the video about those planes yesterday and there are foot slots on the other side for climbing. Part of the daily maintenance was sending a mechanic up there to check it out.

 

I'd guess PM / testing the gear on the truck. Probably a regularly scheduled deal. Gary
