Hi fellow members, i found this pic on the net of a 1933 Ford dash with an accessory gauge panel attached to the middle of the bottom rail. Having studied a lot of these type of gauge panels for consideration to use it on my own dash, i have not seen anything like this before. The usual Eelco, Hildebrand, SW or Offy etc. accessory gauge dash panels are different in shape and size. I think this one was HOME MADE or probably CUSTOM MADE. I would like to find the identical panel, or maybe have it made up. Has anybody seen this type of panel before or knows where to get hold of one ? Thanks for the help and many regards Randolf
That would be fairly easy to make. You could start with a steel gauge panel and weld in some metal to match the dash shape. Here's one HAMBer Mike Hamel had posted.
The Mexican Blackbird 33 roadster shown in your photo (Billy's Car) I would guess had the panel made by SO-CAL. You may want to call them in Pomona and maybe they could make you one or tell you who made it. I like it also.
Here's the one Chris put together...looks pretty sharp. JohnnyA http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=661646&page=21 Post #403
You and I are seeing something different,,the Mexican Blackbird is a 1958 T- Bird,,not a 33 coupe. HRP
Yes, Chris`s panel looks real good, excellent work. Maybe he would be interested in making one or two up for HAMBers. Thanx Floorboardinit members members
The photo is of a 33 roadster owned by Kirk White and was entitled the Mexican Blackbird (owned by BG). Billy had SO-CAL build him the T-Bird with the same name. Goggle the Mexican Blackbird 33 roadster for whole story. Lynn
I did make that first one out of an old Eelco panel. I have since made a different one in the same fashion. Very easy to do
I like the addition of the tach but aren't the stepped bezel 2 5/8" gauges a bit modern for your build? Sorry, I'm one of those obnoxious gauge snobs. JohnnyA
I dunno when these gauges came out, but I'm going for mid 50's with my build. Maybe they are later then that, but I don't really mind them for now. I've been looking for a nice set of gauges, but $$$ is always an issue
Those guys are seen as being 1960s but they look pretty good and don't go against the vibe too much. I'm surprised with your swap meeting skills you haven't fallen into any curved glass 2 5/8 gauges. JohnnyA
Chris, the panel looks great as do the gauges. I have some old ones for my new project but they cost too much to rebuild in the LA or WA area. I will keep looking. The Kennedy Boys (Jason) made some similar panels for a 33/34.
Yeah, I have quite a bit of early "desired" gauges, but these "new" SW's work just fine for me. Like I said I may swap em out down the road, but I really like the tach and the 2 5/8's match it pretty well.
