talking to a guy in vegas the other night and he told me that he cant register his truck in NV as a 1950 since it was brought into the state already with hot rod part-V8, non-original suspension and motor. he told me they wanted to make him register it as the year of the motor(smoggable newer than 1997) I thought CA was the worst and just cant believe it. is it true? do you have a hot rod in NV that you got to register? how did you do it and keep it under old year smog rules(not have to smog unless 1967 and newer) I wanna help this guy out. I went to NV DMV site and couldnt dig through the garbage to come up with a real answer for him. If you have advice or a way to help him-i will forward your comments to him and turn him onto this thread. Thanks!
How and what state is the truck currently titled and registered? When I registered my 50 truck all that was required was vin inspection. Proof of insurance and pay the fee. The truck didn't have to be running. You can download the vin inspection form from the DMV web site Luckily my truck was titled by data plate number and not the engine number.
we just registered the wifes 55 and all they did was a vin inspection. they didnt ask anything about the car. is it running or in pieces?
we didnt get to talk too much-he was real busy when he called. he said he had moved from misouri a couple years ago and had the truck when he came-just never registered it. when he went to register-they told him or he heard that it had to be reg as model year of motor with all the smog junk. i wouldnt expect it to be worse than CA-CA is a PITA but its not too hard. CA even has a specially constructed vehicle class that smogs as the "year the vehicle most closely resembles" I havnt heard from him. maybe if anyone in vegas area wants to PM me I can give you his info and you could help walk him through. ive learned that the DMV can be manipulated using their own rules-the hard part is getting that employee to KNOW their own rules. Ive got the CA title thing down from 16 hours to 1 hour.. =) and even with YOM plates!
