My biz partner Dave and I are working on this 1931-32 American Austin race car (thats right I said RACE CAR ) We bought it off the HAMB last year. As you can see,we have fitted it with dual carbs. It runs reeeeeal good!! The chassis is just about done. The wood work in the body is about 85% done too.The body work and paint are next.We are planning on taking it to the Showdown and fling some MUD on the track!
Mazdaslam, Glad you got that car, I remember it in the HAMB for sale section. I won't have the Henderson 4 motorcycle powered midget running by then put I should have the body built and chassis restored. New wheels are being built in California. The car had fun last month in Hershey, but was real happy to see dry land here in Connecticut.
I was at Hershey on Friday, way too much rain.I wish I had seen your car, looks real neat. What year was that built, and was it really ever raced??
Thanks! I've know about the car for 20+ years, owned it for 5 months and I'm looking for any info on it. A good friend Pete Wing bought it thinking it was a Wing Midget, a low production run of cars built in Greenfield Massachusetts. He got it from a guy @ Coatesville, Pa. who was into REAL old Indian motorcycles and converted American LaFrance fire engines into speedsters, cast his own aluminum wheels using Corvair crankcases & old pistons. (You can't make this up, true stuff). I need to get this guys name, lived in an old two story school house, if you need another clue. The aluminum body was never painted, guess it was buffed, you can read HUNTERS LODGE in 6 inch high letters and 167 Causeway, St. under that, I think that was in Boston, Mass. Was that a Lodge, Bar or Restaurant? I don't know if the fire that burned off the tail was in Mass. or Pa. that is the history I have so far. Pre 1933 Midget Racing info is real rare, there isn't a part on the chassis newer than 1927, all Model T Ford or Henderson, motor was built in 1925. I want to find a Henderson side car frame to see if they used tubing T's for the crossmember connections. Whoever built this car designed it on paper, then produced it. No Micky Mouse welding of fab work, no upgrades repairs or damaged areas. Someone stuck a bracket on the front of the chassis for headlights I think, that is the only added thing I've found. They made that front axle from scratch, why they didn't just narrow a T axle is a mystery.
