Wow! That old COE is beyond cool! I've never seen anything like it. Welcome to the HAMB!

    K-18,

That's quite the grille guard. Good luck with your project.

    ………………………………………………………………………………………...

The truck in the attached photo was hauled to the scrap yard many years ago. It had stylish fadeaway fenders and very short doors that gave it a unique look, but it would have been a tough save.

Here is how the K-18's were used back in 1941. The truck had the transmitters and a PTO generator in the back, and the trailer contained the receiver gear.

I am going to take stencils of all the military markings on mine and repaint it stock for the restoration.<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/19997518@N02/10615749335/"****le="GMC 1941 CF 351 radio truck Life by wlsilva, on Flickr">[IMG]</a>.

I should have known. I have a model of one of his famous Labatt's delivery trucks. Here are a few more of his designs, as built by the Smith Brothers in Canada.

    Thanks!

  6. About 8 years ago I had a regular Coke truck sized COE straight job like these in my sights. No way that I could pull the trigger though! I had just started a new job and had no vacation time coming to me, it was in western Idaho and me in Wisconsin. I had a couple of buddies for co-drivers, but still a 4 day trip, had to walk away.

I think the seagrams truck and the one in the color photo are Diamond Ts, don't look quite right for a White

You are correct. They are Diamond T's. I was simply showing some of his designs that had similarities to the one in my photo and didn't mean to infer that all of them were White trucks.

There is a good article about the Seagram Diamond T's on The Hemming's Blog.

Like you, I could have dragged this one home, but it seemed like such an overwhelming project at the time.

I was not aware of the Brewster COE's, the buses I know overly well being as I own one but I wonder if any of these trucks survived?

  11. COE fans!

I have a good O/T donor vehicle that I need to get rid of asap, it's a class C econoline RV with a good running 460. I don't want to post it in the classifieds because it's off topic but shoot me a PM if you are interested.

Man I thought of your bus as soon as I saw this but it doesn't appear in this group. Any idea why?

I've decided that I need to get back to my '56 Chevrolet COE project.
As I've lurked on this thread I've noticed several different late model chassis options. I've been looking at cube van chassis as the steering box looks like it's in a very advantagous location. I'm looking at them also since most come with duals on 16" tires which will keep the project a little closer to the pavement.
I'd appreciate and ideas or comments on this chassis choice.
    Thanks in advance!!

Hey Mr Rods&Cycles you might want to check out the COE Social Group over here:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=333

We are currently running a discussion on what frame to use here:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=41482

There are a bunch of great guys in the group that have built COE's on later model chassis and lots of info to share. Because the main thrust of the HAMB is traditional hot rods, we sometimes are on the outer fringe of this, so we have a little corner of the shop where we can still have our COE material. Most of us also have other rides that fit within the main board.

Here are some photo's of my 1962 Commer Van called GUMBY. Gumby has been chopped 12 inches and it is mounted on a 1975 Chevy C20 chassis. Has anyone air bagged a C20 chassis as i am looking for a company that can sell and post to me in Aussie a air bag kit so i can dump it into the weeds.

Sam, I understood Gumby was now in QLD ? It is the same one that was built in SA ? Whats is it doing with your Ute on a trailer or did you but it ? Have you tried the Air bag people that you see advertising here in Australia ? Google Air bag man and see if he can help you. http://www.airbagman.com/

GUMBY was built by Ray and Audrey Maidment over Adelaide way. They sold it to a bloke up Brisbane way. Tony Kilmartain tracked the bloke down and brought it. Tony had it for sale on Ebay so Mark Rudolph and me flew up to Brisbane last Thursday night and i brought it and drove 27 driving hours to get it home here. I had driven my ute to Ararat so had to go and trailer it home last Sunday arvo. I have only had Gumby a few days but thought more people in the USA would know if there was a kit that suited the 1975 C20 chassis.

Geez Jeff, you shoulda just left it in Vegas for me and saved all that fuel! I'm just 100 miles up the road from where it was!

Besides, I need a car hauler so I'll be building my '54 Chevy on a one ton dually chassis. Should be stout enough to drag around the wife's T, my shoebox, or whatever I decide to adopt next! :D

Here are a couple pics from the link Bill posted. Lots of bodywork, maybe not so HAMB compliant, but cool none the less.

HAHAAAaaaaaaaa....Nice thats what i was thinking

  29. I'm trying to figure out the rear suspension on the one that Bill posted earlier. One photo shows a bunch of air solenoids so I'm****uming air bags, but 4 link, chev truck trailing arms? I know from experience that there isn't enough room for 8" bags between the frame rails and the tires on a dually, 6" seem to small, unless he's going to run empty all the time.
