Technical What make some parts special?

56 box is shorter because of the first "safety" deep dish steering wheel , fit into hotrods with out shortening the coulmn shaft .

 

Yep. I've got a couple like this. I was all excited that I could swap '48 guts into a '38 case and use the top I'd just found, but then discover I still need to get a hens-teeth wide fork.
