A fellow HAMBer about 300 miles north may have one for me, I'm waiting for pictures. If that won't work I think I'll buy the Speedway kit for $50 and adapt it. For the price I think it'd be worth the expense rather than trying to build something from scratch.

  3. Sounds like a good plan, wish we had that stuff available here or at least at your prices. Look forward to see how it turns out. JW

  4. Ha!!! The yin and yang of domestic life. What would she think of Lemon Yellow? :p

  5. Eric, Hope it's just my moniter, but is the maroon a little muddy?

As have a brown tone to it ?
What was the color code Bob used?

  6. Hummm beautiful so far ...... just drop the valve covers and put the Flattie in this!!!!! and the C*&^% in the shoebox.......... point of personal preference.......

  7. Looks brown to me too.

Haven't done anything with the cowl vent yet, will post updates as we progress.

Don't you guys have a local speed shop that imports?

    Um, no. LOL

Yeah, under the fluorescents it does I'm a little sad to say. By the time I got to Bob's the sun was down so I couldn't see it in the sun. Good thing I don't drive under fluorescents!

You know, I would but the wife got so sick of the flattie in our '41 always giving us trouble she doesn't want one in her car! Starter bendix always going out so there was a lot of push starts, lots of sitting and waiting for it to cool down, etc.

Yeah, don't rub it in, LOL.

  9. There are some but things get pricey and its easier for me to spend 3-4 hours making something cool than work for the same time to earn the coin to buy it. some items are well priced but I see what you guys pay in the US and its cheap as. Keep up the good work Eric, its looking so good. JW :)

  11. Eric, Not to late to re do the color, at least it's only the frame painted.
A quick scuff with a scotchpad and re shoot it now before it's all done.
Once ya get it all done and together ya may not be happy with it.
If it's muddy it will look worse on the body with all the curves.
Just tryin to help ya out bud.
Call if ya want a code # for a clean maroon
    sumthin like this 1

Thanks Don, I may call you up for the color code. I think we will probably copy Jim Shelton's color, but we'll see. You'll see the results below.

I do love flatheads, as does she, but I want a maintenance free engine so she can drive anywhere, anytime without worries. And a '57 283 with a vintage Offy intake and three Rochesters will be ALMOST as cool!

Thanks brother. Things are changing a little here, see below.

I took Victoria up to Bob's today. In the booth with fluorescent lights she was in LOVE! She checked it out, we compared it to the color sample, decided it was maybe a 1/2 shade darker (which is a good thing). If was absolutely perfect in her eyes.

So what do I do? Get a dumb added idea to move it out into the sun to see it. Fellas, I can't begin to tell you what a GORGEOUS paint job Bob has laid down! It's simply incredible. A true work of art!

Problem is, in the sun this color comes alive. Like literally. It's like it's electrically charged candy. It is absolutely amazing. The wife says it's way purple and hates it.

So, back to the drawing board it seems. That paint was damn expensive too! BUT it's her car and I really do want her to be happy with it.

I can't tell you how vibrant this paint is. It is incredible. It's beautiful. And it's going to waste.

Yeah, you noticed? LOL, she's gonna LOVE that picture!

Yep, it's a BEAUTIFUL finish. I'm pretty particular about color and I don't really see the purple that everyone else does, but I do see a LOT of magenta as someone eluded to earlier.

Bob said he'd respray it, bit he ain't gonna sand or again! Looks like I'll be the one sanding it out.

He doesn't seem upset at all, but as an artist I know how it feels when you've completed a masterpiece to be proud of and someone doesn't like it.

Ha ha ha, classic! As much as I would have agreed with that statement years ago my wife is truly my best friend. We never fight, we really enjoy spending time together and have the same goals. Hell, we share an office because we enjoy each other that much! Most people don't get it, can't understand why we don't want "alone time". I never understood how people could be that way either, until I became one of those people.

I really do want her to be happy with HER car, and will go to the necessary lengths to do so, as she would for me. Believe me, it's a nice change from wife #1!

  19. Magenta is more it than purple and my wife #2 is so behind all I do I cant remember wife #1 !! Cheers Eric. JW :)

  20. Can the frame stay at its current magenta-y tone and just darken the body color to contrast?

Wow...it did "come alive" in natural light! I agree you should give her what she wants...plus now she's going to be so much more understanding when you have to make changes on your next build because it wasn't "quite right"!

Thanks for all the input guys, still not sure what I'm going to do. We had hoped to make the GG Scottsdale show this weekend but Victoria had a root canal abcess and swell up Wednesday or Thursday. Poor girl is STILL swollen after minor surgery, antibiotics and a steroid shot! She's also not appreciating my chipmunk jokes. I don't know why really, I'm freaking hilarious!

Been working on the shoebox a little this week, and her backing plates this weekend. Thanks to a pattern provided by 28A on another thread I have the driver's side done and am starting the passenger side.

    Updates in a few days.

Love the Backing plates! Keep up the work, waiting to see that Shoebox on the road.

  28. The color you are looking for is Royal Cessna Maroon. Less magenta, more purple/maroon.

Looking really good Eric! I thought I saw, at one point, markings on the rails for a '32 style reveal.....guess my eyes were playing tricks! You missed a HUGE show.

    Ha! Perfect!

    Sounds about right Trent!

Thanks Mr. Jimmy! No deuce reveal on this, but had we used 4" rails instead of 3" we probably would have needed to break up the large expanse with some sort of character line. Bob's done it before and they look great!

Sorry again I missed out on Scottsdale... thanks for rubbing it in! ;)
