Whats a good front leaf spring to hold up a 960 lbs 331 hemi? was planning on using a 39 ford leaf in the rear.
I know somebody with a blown 392 in a 32, just gotta find the *******, PM me in a few days if I don't get an answer in a timely manner.
Here you go call Ski, at Anchor Sign in Orange CA. 714 997 2935. He has a the 32 with the blown hemi. Closed now try tomorrow.
Thats the identical question I wanted to ask!!! I'm putting a 331 in my 34 and currently have a Mr. Roadster Spring from Speedway rated at 2500 total weight in it. I can get the part number if needed. Keep me posted. Really need to know if I too need to upgrade springs.
Hey me too....I dropped the hemi in my 34 and the spring flattened out -0 travel. Was going to call Posies when I got around to it but if someone knows the proper spring? Don't want it too stiff but need some travel.
BTTT for this one. I am faced with this as well. I wouild like to run a Posies superslide up front. Been looking at a 31" reversed eye with 1" of dearching. Anyone have guesses as to how it will hold up? This is a great topic and needs to be looked at if it hasn't already!!
I guess I'm one of the lucky few, I'm using a '46 Dodge pickup parallel leaf axle and all I'm going to do is add 2 short leafs to each spring pack (already done from a previous project)...I figure that'll do well enough...****ers...hehehe
Posies should be able to get you the correct spring. I had to add leafs to my front spring. I bought a trailer spring at the farm store for $20 that matched my front spring and took it apart, then added what I needed. You can also check with a local truck/trailer parts place as some of them have spring parts and rearching services. Pick up a couple extra spring center bolts while you are there to help with the experimenting. overspray
Just talked to Posies. They said we need to use their "Heavy Duty" spring for this application. Example would be #1002H wich has reversed eyes and gives it 1-1/2 inches of drop. They said they could also do a custom spring that would be lower, but it would be the price of a custom spring. I'm trying to find out if I can just add a leaf or two to the normal already lowered spring like the #1002L spring.
Mine is running a DeSoto 330 Hemi ..... I used a posie spring i found at a swap meet... Model A rear spring .... no problems here.
960lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What got in it?!?...rocks?? A 392 stock is just under 800lbs....and thats with a cast iron intake,Stock generator and all the other factory ****. Wow.....
I have a 331 Hemi in my -32 and I bought my spring from So-Cal speed shop and it works great for me. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112151&highlight=stefan
Outstanding roadster!!! Incredible!! Do you remember exactly what spring you bought from SoCal? Was it the Heavy Duty spring?
I dont remember, but if you call them I´m sure they know wat to use. After all they have build som roadsters with hemi.
Took a sbc out of my 32,put a 392 with a cast iron 4spd,never changed the spring.NO PROBLEMS.Over 2,000 miles so far. Its a Posies super slide-in the car since 1989.
Its been about 17 years or so,I don't remember for sure. But,I know its a reversed eye, lowered spring with a model A crossmember.I'm sure if they asked I told them I was running the small block chevy.I didn't have the Hemi back then. And my frame is not c- notched up front.
Just got a note back from Posies on springs... The guy said he absolutely suggests running the Heavy Duty Model spring for a Hemi application. Sounds like we're only going to get about 1-1/2 inches of lowering with that spring. The HD springs are about $190. Any HAMB vendors carry Posies springs? Vaphead??
Thanks for the info guys. This is where I read that its`s 960 lbs ***embled and 710 dry from www.cl***ichemi.com.
Old thread I know They recommended the 1002H (H = heavy duty). Any reports or up dates on how this spring holds up, settles,
I just planted my hemi in my A. Got a "super slide " spring that came with my frame,so I don't know it's rating or a part #. I had to make the mounts, and gave it about 10* angle on set up. The spring settled about an inch- the engine wear's it's factory crossover and h20 housing/pump. I'm still on the + side, but by a few degrees....Things look good so far. Might not be a lot of help, but the frame sat down an inch.....
