That's right Robert – gotta use the right tool for the job. Wood coping saw blades work pretty well on 3/8 thick aluminum.;)

Not yet Bruce – I'm shooting for next week.

    Brilliant, Dave.
I never would've thought to cut aluminum with a coping saw.

Cool to hear you'll be firing up the Hemi soon!

Did you not make it to the TRJ Revival? I was looking forward to meeting you.

It's traditional fabrication. The average hot rodder didn't have a mill and a lathe in his garage in the 50s, but he surely had a coping saw. :D

Sorry Nick, but no, I didn't. Believe it or not, I couldn't find anyone to go up with me on Saturday morning. Everyone I know from my area went up on Thursday.

When the Vicky is back on the road I'll look you up – maybe the HAMB Drags, the Roundup or Bonneville. Oh, and thanks for the encouraging words.

Break in the cam? This weekend? Better shoot some video. If I remember right you will do this at the machine shop that did your motor work?

    That sounds great Dave.

I want to be there once you put the engine back in the car and fire it up.

Absolutely Sam. I appreciate all the help you've given me over the years. Maybe I can have the Memorial Day cookout at my house this year.

The builder has to ****on up a 289 this week and get it off the run stand before I'm up. Should be next week sometime, but I don't have a firm date.

NOTE: When I used the term "soon" in my previous post, I was speaking in the context of my entire build – so "soon" should actually be defined as "within the next 6 months". ;)

Hey, i just ran by Ballos yesterday to drop off some parts to clean up, and Stewart showed me your motor. That is gonna be a BEAST to put on a 31 frame! But it looks awesome!

Thanks man. I actually have a boxed 32 frame, so it's a bit stronger and longer than an A frame. I've already installed the motor and transmission into the car so I could do all the necessary fab work. Then I pulled it back out to let Stewart fire it and break it in.

When I'm ready, it should drop right back in just like it came that way from the factory.:)

  15. I think the dual quads look cleaner and perform better than any other setups!

I've been waiting about a week for my engine builder to get the motor on the run stand. Welp, I finally heard from him today. It seems that the gear and shaft that connects the cam to the oil pump isn't long enough. The shaft came with the motor when I bought it, so I ***ume that's correct, so could it be the wrong oil pump? We've got to figure that out before we can fire it.

In the mean time, I finally got around to metal finishing my garnish trim, so I dropped it off at the plater last Monday. I picked it up today:

Nice work on the garnish moldings. I think mine are so pitted that only paint will do.

I'm still waiting on my engine builder to fire the motor.

Meanwhile I've been finishing up some of the details that had to be changed for the hemi install.

I posted my mew steering column earlier, but I never made a new tach mount for it. I finished it up this weekend. Next, I need to bend my brake pedal to the right about 3/4 inch.

Oh, I almost forgot, my mother got me a Carter P4070 for Christmas. Thanks Mom!

Here are a few pics of the tach mount:

Sweet, like the way you let the mount into the billet/collar!

I took the whole front end apart this weekend to do all the necessary welding. I finished welding up the motor mounts and I cut off the bung from the old steering support bearing. I still need to weld up the hole from the bearing, fill the hole in the firewall where I moved the column down and add a little clearance on the right side of the recess. I'm also going to weld in threaded bungs for my upper shock mounts.

She's definitely off the road now.
