Thanks, Mick! Rik Hoving had also identified the magazine for me, and I appreciate your assist!

I had thought from the original picture that the car was a '51 Vic like mine, but I now realize that it was a '52. Looks like a pretty nice car, and a good use of Buick side trim.

Ever wonder how the car manufacturers could ship the autos in a box car? In the very earliest days, they would just drive a couple of 'em in but that left a lot of wasted space.

Here's a photo of a cut-away model showing how movable ramps inside the box car can be arranged to fill the space with autos. It took some skill to load them without damage. It was labor intensive and time consuming. In the '50s the drive-on, drive-off auto carrier rail cars were used. I think that the railroads were slow to develop them because they could only be used for vehicles and most often would be running empty on their way back to the auto factories. The old-fashioned box car could have the ramps stowed out of the way and could carry revenue-producing cargo on their way back to the factories.

rbantique, can you clarify what this caption says? Does it have a year for the steering box? I'm guessing this is a '35/'37 box turned on its side?
