This is my first kit car build, as I always worked on a production built vehicle, and would like to know , when mounting the fiberglass body of a 1941 Willys to the frame should I bolt it directly to the frame or make side mounts on the frame and use Urethane Body bushings to mount to? If mounting directly to frame should I use some type of insulator between body and frame? Will mounting to the frame directly cause any cracks in the glass as the engine torques? Any pictures and info would be appreciated. Thanks
All our cars are bolted directly to the frame, But I know my floor can take it and my chassis's are setup for it. Not sure who your body/chassis came from, You can add plates to the side of the frame, then sandwich the floor in between the chassis plate and another piece of 1/4'' flat stock on the topside of the floor. You can use foam tape in between the chassis and the floor to avoind some noise, You can get the better tape from Auto stores that sell Truck caps. Scott

I'm surprised that there is no body mounts to cushion the shock. Drag racing bolt direct, but for the street it seems like there should be something. Like I said I'm learning. Thanks

My trucks had a problem with the plastic dashes cracking. At $2300.00 a wack I decided to try using 1/4" thick x 1" diameter rubber washers under the metal washers that are on the dash bolts. I have not had a dash crack since doing that. Based on that experience I would never bolt a fiberglass body directly against the chassis without isolators top and bottom on the floor or mounting surface. Frames flex and Fiberglass cracks. McGurk
I have to agree with McGurk, if you insulate the body with some rubber washers or biscuits above and below floor you can take some vibration out of the body. If your building strictly a drag car or a rought street rod and cracks, patina, character or what ever ya wanna call it doesnt matter than do a solid mount. If your also running solid engine and tranny mounts you may want to visit the dentist and have your fillings tightened. Dave
Well I traded a 9 sec solid mount everything tube chassis drag car which was teeth shaking but FUN AS HELL for this willys and want to do the street strip thing with it. I'm wondering if the donut mounts like the 1st gen Camaros used wouldn't work. Cut a hole and weld the nut into the frame, bolt down thru the body. You can get the donuts in rubber or urethane.
69z we donot put anything donut style under the floor, Go full length of chassis with whatever you use (Good foam tape) if you raise the body off the chassis with donuts the floor will eventually sag/rest around your mounts, I will post some pics of a 33 willys we are building now when we mount the body to the new chassis. I used a Yoga Matt my wife had. It's about 3/8th inch thick, do the whole top of chassis and top of mounting brackets, that you had mounted. You can do your whole car with one. She said they are about 15 bucks a piece. good luck. race or show, don't matter... quiet.
