LOVE this car. Chip, IIRC, you were involved in the build, right?

Never thought of that, he DOES visually possess the same traits as the wind up gorilla with the symbols... Kinda acts the same way too!

Yes I did! My buddy Craig Smith built it, and I had tons of input in the suspension set up, played helper monkey for the paint, and did lots of the final assembly and wiring too! (the end that actually worked on the wiring!)

Do you have any more pics other than the ones I've attached?

Nice! But that one needs a smaller scoop too.

    Ya, lots and lots!

  7. Chip, what would your ideal dimensions be for one of those dragster scoops? Are you planning on running one on the single 4 bbl or on a 2-4 setup?

I don't really know how to answer that Steve! And I mean either question. I am actively looking at a couple of dual carb manifolds around town as we speak, and I think if I go that route I'll just go two small filters - two carbs, 'nuff said. If I stick with a single, I'm not sure what size I want to run other than most that I have set in place have been too small or way too large. My buddy's purple and white car above is part of the reason I am so nuts about the size of the scoop, 'cause when he did that one I told him it was too big. I honestly think it'll end up being one of those "I'll know it when I see it" kinda deals...

The purple and white roadster is very sexy, love it too.
    Coler and airclear talk brings me to make this note;
The first set of aircleaners on my 2x4s in my 28Aroadster in 1959,were not aircleaners really, just homemade brass screen 1/2 balls with lady's leg garters to cover the clamps that held the screen on,garters were color matched to body at the time <very dark purple]and had two yellow plastic rose's also in the clamps=one in front carb on left and rear carb on right> motor was yellow . It may sound funny to you but it looked good and the ladys loved them;)
It stayed that way tell I painted the body highgloss black and was given a twin carb alum cleaner with a few fins on top..

I snuck a bit of time away this afternoon and had the fuel cap bung that Halibrand Steve sent me welded in by my buddy and living legend, Don Marks. With hat and my brackets going on it looks awesome! I didn't get any pictures tonight, but it is sitting full of water over night to double check for any leaks. Hope fully I can get some time in to install it and finally make a battery box this weekend or early next week. Either way around it I'll shoot and load some pictures tomorrow when the sun comes up.

Well, it's raining cats and dogs in Phoenix today, so I'm in doing some heavy pre-holiday baking while Judy is at work. (Endlessearth's exhaust manifolds)

I also promised you a couple of shots of the gas tank that is ready to go into the 'Bucket... Here it is in all it's glory! It's a little beat up, but none of that will show once it's in the bed, and it will be covered by a tonneau cover most of the time anyway. THANK YOU SO MUCH HALIBRAND STEVE FOR THE FILLER CAP!!! That was totally unexpected, and one of the nicest gifts ever given me. Thank you again...

If she only knew how many times that oven has cooked VW engine cases, Triumph motorcycle cases, exhaust stuff, cured wrinkle paint, cooked brake hubs.... Lets just say probably more than actual food. Probably shouldn't have posted it on Facebook though...

Ya, and Judy hit me with "Froggy" the other night too!

LOL, I think you need some easy off. And since you seem to like using the oven, YOU can clean it :D
I bet Judy likes me ;)

The self clean is happily incinerating anything left inside the oven as we speak! Actually, I use the oven even for cooking more than she does. Chinese stir fry freakin' everything...

    Tank looks good, Chip!

  21. So Chip,
After all these years of believing that I couldn't use my oven for cleaning, baking on gun finishes, etc, etc, I can with no harm to the oven!?!
    I suspect a conspiracy!

  22. The tank looks really good and it must hold a few more gallons then the old one ? I do like that spinner top too. I use a marine cap arrangement on my bucket that is spun loose using a American Dollar coin that hangs on the key ring. Now can you guys educate me on why you have the exhaust manifolds in the oven for ? And the other bits and pieces you have cooked in the oven ? Why ?

To heat cure high temp resistant paint, I'd imagine.

BBQ/Header paint that is made to withstand high temperatures won't fully cure until it's been heated above ~400°F.

Until you bake it, that paint is still rotten and will scratch/mar very easily.

Once you bake it, it's there damned near forever.

Some ceramic matrix coatings are the same way.

Sweet. Would you be thinking of mounting the tank at a height that allows the fill tube to stick through a fitted hole in the tonneau, so as to show off that neat cap?

'Course then you'd probably have to rig up some sort of anti-theft device for the cap.... :(

The exhaust stuff is just as Coolhand below said. With the latest batch of VHT paints, they have a small amount of ceramic in the paint's makeup, and cooking them "fires" that ceramic and makes them almost bulletproof. Lots of guys tell me that VHT doesn't work, then the very first thing I ask is "Did you sandblast it first?", and "did you bake it like the directions stated"? Usually both answers are "NO"... Then it shouldn't work!

The other stuff that has been cooked in my oven over the years frequently was VW engine cases, and Triumph motorcycle cases. I can't for the life of me remember why the VW cases were cooked, but it has been 20 years since I built the last of mine. The Triumph cases use pressed in bearings and bushings through out, and if you heat them to 400 degrees they literally fall out without hurting the case.

Now, the last thing you have to know is that I wouldn't put ANYTHING in my oven that wasn't clean as a whistle! Yesterday's manifolds were brand new stock that had never been on ANYTHING. The cases and stuff have been cleaned within an inch of their lives before heating. But ya, I made a batch of blue berry muffins this morning before I left for the swap and they were delicious!

I've been diggin' on the latest batch of VHT ceramic paints for durability. Good stuff!

    Well gee thanks...
I hadn't thought about theft prevention! Yes, the idea is exactly as you described with the filler cap out the top of the tonneau. I even pulled the tiny tank out at Don's the other day, barrowed a straight edge so I could get the cap at the right height. I'm still trying to figure out a slick way to vent this deal, as I have very little vertical space to deal with.

  26. I personally don't think it's a good idea.... some of the fumes off some of this stuff can be toxic; do you really want to risk eating something that may not be healthy for you?

But having an oven for curing/heating stuff is extremely handy, and there's no reason you can't pick up a used oven for cheap or free. Try CL or local appliance stores; you can find free ones for the effort to go get them in many cases. I picked up a free range that had issues on the top burners but the oven worked fine, removed the top and put a piece of sheetmetal over it. Installed some casters on it so I could move it around easily and my 'garage oven' has been a useful tool for years now.... Total cost under $30.

Not super slick but I think this looks good for what it is. Like a radiator over flow I guess. This might be a radiator over flow tank actually but this type of tube is an option on all the gas tanks these guys sell too. Probably easy to add one to an existing tank on the back side and run a rubber hose where you can't see it...

  28. Chip, it looks great! Glad to hear you will be showing it off through the tonneau as well. And you are very welcome, I'm glad I could contribute a bit to such a cool, inspiring build!

Very KOOL KAP and something that will be a standout on your deuglified (is that even a word)? roadster but something you'll have to remove and replace with an UGLY one when you park overnight in a hotel lot when traveling as I have to do with my Grabowski shift knob. I didn't think of that when I put a quick release on my steering wheel so I had to put a small pin through the pin holding it on.
