Vintage shots from days gone by!

*Airplane nerd alert!*
That is the Douglas XB-43 Jetmaster, a development of the XB-42 Mixmaster. The XB-42 was a twin Allison V12 powered 'Pusher' aircraft. It had two counter rotating props on the centre line behind the tail surfaces (empennage).
The XB-43 was powered by two J35 Axial-flow jet engines, it went through quite a few design changes before it was stuck off charge some time in 1954.
Some of the changes were; a single cockpit canopy, a clear nose 'Bombardier' position with jet intakes on either side just forward of the wing to name a few.
I had an odd fascination with these things when I was in high school, I even built resin model's of both of them that cost in the $90 range for 1/72 scale kits!
