We didn't take any pictures but it was a great show again this year. Cops were out in force, even driving up and down aisles at BelAire Plaza with flashing lights on :)mad:), and it was brutally cold a couple of nights (for Florida, anyways) But lots of fun in spite of the weather.

    Hope someone posts some pix.

Didn't take a car this year. I saw many great cars and talked to a bunch of cool people, but didn't snap many photos.

I really like this show. A couple of things I noticed:

    1. It may have been just me, but it seemed like there was far more really shitty ratty rods than ever.

    2. Stupid fantasy prices in the car corral.

    3. Same with a lot of stuff in the swap meet.

    4. Dang, the crowd is getting older and greyer (me included ), but a lot of young people too. That was good to see.

    5. Too damn many scooter chairs. Saw at least two pedestrians mowed down by a couple of assholes who probably didn't even need a chair.

    6. Its fascinating to me to see all the repro stuff available. The manufacturing automation we have available is making it possible to build parts we could only dream of just a few years ago, at prices that are really amazing.

You do need to watch out for the people on the scooters and I doubt that many of them actually need one,it seems 80 percent of the cars there are for sale and wonder if they get anything close to their fantasy price. Last year I noticed way too many ratty looking vehicles and late models, for years I heard they would turn you away if you had a daily driver looking car so what is up with the late models and ratty cars.

We felt the same way about the scooters, they were everywhere and you had to be very careful because some people were zipping way too fast on them. Turkey Run used to limit motorized conveyances to people who needed them to get around but now there are places renting them and people are bringing some in that look like trains, with a cart or two in tow behind them. Someone is going to get hurt and that will put an end to that happening, I bet.

Some prices were high but there were a bunch of very reasonably priced project cars for sale.........we almost bought a Chevy II drag car and I was hot on an MGB :)o) Then we remembered we already have too many unfinished projects now.

On the bright side, it looks like TR has hired a professional cleaning crew to keep after things during the show. There was always toilet paper in the portajohns, and the grounds were pretty clean. That was a good move IMO.

  9. I hate the scooters but I rented one in Knoxville,Tenn. last year while I was still recuperating from a broken ankle,,it was ether that or sit beside the car all day.

I got a lot of good humor razzing by a few of my friends but I did get to see most of the show. HRP

  10. Man I didn't take any pictures but their was some nice rides. I walked the swap meet and found some good stuff. found that most would bargain and found some good deals. As for the scooters that going to get some one hurt had to tell more than one to move their lazy ass out of the way. Meet some good guys from Miami and Georgia

IT IS NOT REALLY the people who need the scooters that bother me but the idiot who had his scooter and 2 buddies on a trailer they made sitting on folding chairs. no way could he stop . they should only allow handicapped people with a doctor's note to rent them and no gold chaining trailers on a scooter. there are a bunch of wagon pics at stationwagonforums.com

I'm going to add some pics, but a good story from the weekend...

Have turkey with the fam early around 3, then meet up with the crew on I-95 around 5pm and begin the trek to Daytona. About 100 miles out my sled begins loosing a bit of power but comes back, so I figure it was just a hiccup in the carb. 10 minutes later, BOOM! - choo-choo-choo... sounds like my motor dentonated or more, like I blew an exhaust manifold gasket. I get off at the next exit and crawl to a gas station, with my buddies in tow. I thought I was done and basically wrote off the weekend, my 14yr boy was really bummed. My buddy then asks me to take of the cover on my spark plug boots ('55 Nailheads have that metal cover) and low and behold, the spark plug fouler I had on that one cylinder blew the spark plug out striping the threads. Take it all out, put a spare one in, then were off! 15 minutes later on I-95 car dies again. Ultimately it was my condenser that did me in and of course I didnt have a spare. Told my buddies it was time to keep going, because I wasn't going to hold them up any longer. I got a tow truck (AAA Gold Membership is a must!) to me in 35 min and took us home. As soon as the truck left, I popped the hood (It's around Midnight) and changed the condenser, started her up and drove around the block to be sure she ran well. Went to bed, slept 4 hours, got my boy and we hit the road back to Daytona the following morning at 5am. Road up with some other neighbors of mine who happened to be going up. Made it to the 7 Eleven by 9:30 to meet up with my crew and we all drove in together into the track. 600+ miles round trip.. what a weekend, and my boy with me the whole way, ha, and watching the old man curse at the distributor. He definitely learned a few new words! Awesome time!

bhead 1968, you must have been the guys a man I work with saw broken down on 95 near Melbourne. He thought it might be me because he knew I was going to TR.

I only had two little mishaps on the trip. I lost a tailpipe on I-4 (I HATE I-4 near Orlando, worst stretch of road in the State) and on the way home about 8 PM Sunday I was moving along and all of a sudden my car lost power. Luckily, I was in a populated area and drifted into a Dollar General Store parking lot. We figured out real quick my coil had died and for some unknown reason I had decided to toss an MSD coil into the tool kit I carried with us. I installed it and was back on the road in about 10 minutes. Someone was watching over me because I almost put the coil back on the shelf and left it at home before we left.........pure dumb luck. :D

BTW, it was really nice to see Bo Hopkins, Candy Clark, and Cindy Williams at the show. My Son Don got signed pictures from all 3 to go along with the one he has from Paul LeMat.

The Deuce coupe and 55 that were on display were very close to the originals, probably as good as any clones of those cars I have seen.

Saturday could not have been any nicer. I have been sunburnt and also froze at the Turkey Rod Run so you need to be prepared for both when you come. When it gets cold here it won't last long.
