I'd always heard that the sphinx's nose was shot off during WII; if this is from 1850, it makes that story just another legend.

 

Harvey Mushman...pitted next to him and his buddy Malcolm Smith at the two-day ISDT (International Six Day Trials) qualifiers at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas back in '73 & 74. He was a serious racer. Didn't come there for a "photo op"...he was there to kick some ass on his 400 Husqvarna (same scooter I rode back then). He deserved the "King of Cool" title for pulling off the Hollywood thing but staying real. And it wasn't until after he died that anyone found out he had been anonymously funding a couple of homes for boys for many years. Including the one he grew up in. Cool is as cool does.
