    Funny you should show these:
I had a mate call in today & show me a pic of the 4 that he is the proud own of. They are pretty rare in Oz & as I have always loved them, he then produced a drawing of a dual cab version as a 5th wheeler he is going to build.
Boy, I'll be watching this build closely :D (might have to post them here ;))

  2. Would also make a great addition to my web site (hint)

Taking my COE to it's first show tomorrow, should be interesting.

Great news Bill. All running well now ?

  4. Yes, pulled out the 302C and fitted the 351C I had sitting on the workshop floor for the last 7 years, so far so good but I will get the heads done soon and will be fitting a rebuilt transmission in the next week or so.
I have nothing planned for the COE after this weekend anyway.

    You removed a Boss 302?
The 351 Cleveland motors are fairly common here, but the Boss motor is very rare and highly sought after.

  9. Hey Bill, have a great time at the show. It is -3 F degrees today where I live and pictures of a car show would be very welcome. (forecast say it'll make it to 0* today)

Just a stocker 302C one would imagine!!
Boss motors aren't that common over here! (but plenty of blokes make them up!)
    289W, 302W & 302C, 351C's are like belly*****ons here, everyone has at least 1

  13. I've never heard of a 302C here in the U.S. Here the Boss 302 has heads similar to a 351 Cleveland head. I have great respect for a 351 Cleveland, had one in a Datsun 240Z. One crazy car!

302 Cleveland was a popular engine here in Australia. GT Falcons etc.

The oddball Engine was in the swap over here from Windsor to Cleveland. To have a Windsor with some Cleveland parts is a rare engine.

  15. Here we had 2bbl and 4bbl versions of the 351 Cleveland, but the head porting was quite different. Some actually liked the 2bbl heads with an aftermarket 4 bbl carb and intake better for street use than the factory 4bbl head. The porting was felt to be to large to get good intake runner velocity at usable street RPMs. I'm not a real knowledgeable Ford guy, so this is just what I've heard back in the day.

  16. I am building this 1950 coe cab on a short F3 chassis with 9 inch rear and F1 front axle , flathead engine French gearbox

    Love the truck....very nice.
I wonder if a big truck or stock coe axle can be machined to accept f1 drums and rotors or a disc conversion..
The whole point is to keep the wheel- to -fender spacing stock.
But having better brakes and more choices of wheels.

Are u going to put a stock bed?
Or make it a flat bed..
    Here is mine.

Thanks for the Art lovin', Barry! Lots of awesome projects in here, wow.... This is 'kinda' relevant, but restoring a vintage Dodge motorhome instead (this was in Truckin' a few years back)

I'm thinking about converting my '52 GMC COE into a Factory Sleeper Cab,

    Attached Files:

  22. Spanky, Up here in Wausau WI back in the early to mid 60s there was a small construction company that had literally dozens of 50s GMCs. Mostly COEs, but I would imagine they were the heavier cannonballs. These lighter ones sure do look intriguing. Good luck with your build.

    Bill,
Are you still running the truck on LPG ?
If so is it worth the extra work involved as I might think to put it on mine.

Swapping to LPG is easy to do. There is some extra lines and components but anybody with minimal mechanical skill could do it. The biggest obstacle can be availability in your area. In Canada you could buy LPG on every corner. In the US people look at you like your are from outer space when you ask to fill up your propane tank. Also you have to figure out if the cost is worth it. In Canada we started using LPG around the mid 80's. Back then it cost $0.06/l. It was cheap for many years till there were lots of vehicles converted over then the gov't started taxing it just like gasoline. Last time I was home it was about the same price as gasoline. The downside to LPG is that it creates less energy which equates to less hspr and more fuel consumption. When it was cheap it was worth it but at dollar for dollar price it is not worth it IMO. The tanks are very heavy and are limited to what is available (no custom tank like you can do a fuel cell). The benefits are it runs super clean. It also runs very smooth unlike some carbureted vehciles.

  28. Here is a recent discussion on a different forum.

    http://forums.justoldtrucks.com/Topic37713.aspx

Over the years I've known several people here in the U.S. that have done the conversion, all have converted back to gasoline, usually because of lack of performance and lack of availability.

  30. I love your truck
mine came from California last year still have the rolling chassis with old v8 flathead
made a new overhauled flathead to put in this c.o.e. truck along wit a French four speed syncro gearbox
wanna try a later f100 axle in front these are about 3 inch wider than the f1 I have now in front so the wheels pop out more
I am thinking to put 15 inch 8 j in front and 10 j rear but depend on rear fender clearance along with 235-75 tire ?
and I make a pick up bed in the rear with 1953 fenders
