Just picked this up today after waiting for seven months to consumate the deal. Before I go to cutting this apart, I thought I would post it and see if anyone know any history on the car. Here's what I know. My nephew (in florida) bought the body off ebay thinking he would cut it up and use parts of the body to complete his '34 roadster (coupster). Once he got it he realized it was to good to cut up, sooooo, that's where I got involved. Its now at my house. He told me it came from the San Diego area. I recently had the opportunity to communicate with the person he got it from. I was told he got it from "Marky" of the shifters. I believe he is the guy with the purple A coupe. I don't want to cut this apart and then find out it was modified by a "named" builder years ago. The body is sectioned through the belt line and shortened in the door openings. I will leave it sectioned but plan on building doors back to correct length. It is pretty much rust free. This will be my third model 40 car (sedan/roadster) and just love them. So, if anyone can help with any history pleas jump in. Tim

Looks cool, hope you can find out some of the history.

  3. Congrats on a great score. Please post better pics. It looks like the body reveal along the quarters has been removed.

I don't think it's a Cabriolet. The rear area where the top would mount loooks wrong for one.

looking closer, maybe I am wrong.....hard to tell in this shot

No history from me, but that has got to be ONE OF A KIND. If there was ever a picture taken, it would be unmistakably this car.

In my head I can picture it full fendered with single flipper caps, lean the cabrio windshield back a little with a chop, '41 Ford bumpers, long & lowered headlights, and smooth hood sides. Sleek custom circa 1948.

Steve's Auto used to do a cabriolet. Maybe they can help with some door and windshield parts.

With the cut down doors maybe someone was trying to get into the Sports Car world way back in the early 1950's. Bob

  13. You could try going the same style as this German Wanderer. Wanderer was a sporty and luxurious German manufacturer.

This is an excellent template to work from. Some of these mods, mixed with the wild section your car has, should give a great result!

UPDATE!! I haven't been able to find out any history on the car so I have begun the re-build process. To date I have cut the body in half through the door opening and mounted the two halves on the frame. The factory holes in the floor lined up with those in the frame.!! I bought new door tops from SAR I have stretched the drivers door back to its original length, installed the door top and filled in the missing 10" of the skin. I relocated the center hinge to the upper location at the same time. Hand formed the outer "skins" of the windshield posts and tacked them on in order to fit the top corner of the door to them. The door encroaches into the post on the cabriolet bodies. I've whittled out a windshield frame to use in reference to the posts..(.used a piece of 12 ga. steel.) I've done several small things, hope you enjoy. Yes, I know you will want more photos..I'll work on it. Tim

Your doing some good work on the body, I would take the section out of the body too. Good luck on the build.............

I've been really busy on this thing. There's a lot that doesn't meet the eye but I have installed rotary latches in both doors/ body worked the drivers door/finished the windshield post's and header and a slew of other things. I'm really into the "section-ing" and have no plans to un-do it. I love the proportions the way it is. Gotta body work the p***enger door and patch the quarters. I'll start back on mechanical stuff after that. Steering is next and then a brake pedal set-up. I'm going with a swing pedal in this one. Hope you all enjoy...Tim

Looks good. In that pic, I couldn't really tell it was channeled, unless it was mentioned.

I think I got you'all up to speed on the mechanical stuff last update so I'll catch you up on the body stuff. Finished all the body work on doors, quarters, filled in the floor, windshield posts, operating cowl vent, lowered the radiator in the cross member to accomadate the sectioning of the body, fit and mounted both hood sides, made headlight mounts(left one is barely visible) modified an original hood top (had to cut three side to make them fit), lowered the grill, finished the firewall mods and body work. I may not have covered it all but that is the basics. Tim
