These cars are just to cool for words! The alters were very exciting to watch.

 

Same as the top fuelers of the day, probably 1500-2000hp. Big balls indeed!!

 

It is the way my phone does it unfortunately. If I have the phone sideways when I take a pic or screen save a shot, I get the black bars.
I'm a member of a FB group called T's, altererds, and topolinos. They post different pics all the time, so I just save my favorites and figured I would share them here.

I was at a Hot Rod Reunion Race at Thunder Valley in Noble, OK some where in the late 1990s. It was a killer day of nostalgic racing including some awesome "Altereds". Anyway there was a dinner that evening and some kind of awards ceremony etc. The MC kept apologizing because they were running late but could not start until the missing board member arrived. Sure enough there was an empty seat at the head table. Anyway after about 30 minutes of waiting and apologies, he finally announced the missing member had just made it...in walked a guy carrying a big urn/trophy cup looking thing which contained the ashes of Wild Willie Borsch. They sat it on the table in front of the missing chair and the ceremony started. It was awesome!

 

I imagine Jimmy Miles was thinking "not my balls, not my balls!!!"

 

What was the thing with using a Fiat body over a T bucket?

 

Thats a neat story Altereds were bad**** and wild Willy was one bad**** driver

 

Wild willie used to drive that monster with one hand on the wheel and other holding on to the door, I read he didn't realize he was doing that. Just holding on. What a WILDMAN!!

Willy broke his arm and it was in a cast and he laid it on the body and it was soon his style. I saw him run several times and he could get your attention and hold it.

Willie claimed he actually could keep the car straighter driving with one hand. He said with two hands on the wheel he tended to over correct when it would start to go sideways. I guess he didn't want to ask Mousie to slow the steering down.

 

Nice stash of pictures, thanks for sharing. Picked up a few neat ideas.
