Really? There are some prominent members that have been here since the start of the HAMB or shortly after who are not Alliance members, they are not trustworthy? As far as the Pal Pal, the seller wants the payment as a gift, not the buyer. As far as the deal, it was sold as working and should be when recieved. If it was something I sold, I would make it right with the buyer no matter what. Having a rep here as a stand up member should be important to all of us...JMO.
I agree. Do yourself a favor and become an alliance member. It will pay for itself if you ask for the discounts Also, how did you test it? Did you only heat the element tip?
Can't say whether these "prominent" members who aren't Alliance members are trustworthy or not, and I don't know that they would survive here undetected and unchallenged for it if they weren't trustworthy. But I would hope that they are some of the real pros who come on here with advice and info that they've spent years learning, and share it willingly. For I'll be the first to acknowledge that as a far greater contribuition to HAMB than my piddly 50 bucks per annum. As far as the seller being the one who wanted to screw Pay Pal, that is a dead giveaway there, cause if he's willing to screw Pay Pal, he's willing to screw YOU!
I put the bulb in a pot of water and brought it up to a boil , needle does not move. I am sending it back to the guy regardless of refund, maybe he will get the point. Thanks for your comments here guys, Merry Christmas!
If you do that, please clip the sending unit so he cant scam another Hamber by saying he thought it worked.
"... for some reason..." I believe the reason is that if a buyer pays through paypal "to friends or family" then he has no recourse if the item is lost, damaged or a scam, since it was a gift of money and not a payment for "goods."
If the buyer is willing to pay the fees, it is a simple matter to increase the amount paid to cover the Paypal fee and net the amount due the seller and retain whatever rights/benefits Paypal offers..... I have done this a few times, as both buyer and seller. Perhaps I am mistaken, but a long time ago I got the notion that "gifts" were sent at no fee....didn't make sense to me then or now. If the difference is merely who pays the fee, sender or receiver, then I stand corrected in regard to my comments about "screwing" Paypal.
Done a lot of dealings here on the HAMB, been screwed a couple of times on postage on freebies. Live and learn. 2.9% percent fee on a $50- transaction would have cost the seller less than a $1.50 can't believe he asked you to lie for that amount, and that you did. Now I always check a guys postings to see if they're here mostly to sell and stay away from those. Personally I'd hang that gauge over my workbench as a reminder and wouldn't hesitate to out him after giving him a chance to tell his side of the story.
I've been screwed here too but didn't go on a rant about it, buying used parts is a gamble. If anyone thinks a 50 year old part is worth gambling on then take the gamble, in the end it's a 50 year old part. Sometimes I just got to shake my head at these threads............
I would think it would be a **** shoot for a 40 or 50 year old gauge to work after bouncing around the inside of a box for 100s of miles. Law of averages says you will get screwed, intentionally or unintentionally, at some point in time. If there was a reasonable amount of care with the packing and shipping, I would consider it a rebuildable core that didn't cost tanks of petrol to chase and move on.
Paypal does not collect any fees from either side on money sent as a gift. How was it mailed? Ups fedex and usps priority all have some insurance, even if it wasn't added.
Adding to the sale price is exactly what I've done in some situations. Asking to send as a gift seems to have become the norm for a lot of boards. I don't really agree with it but its not worth my time to h***le with it especially when i want something. I did gift to someone the other day and had to cover the fee on my end. Just my 2 cents.
The shipper would need to start the claim. Good luck with that. Even if he did, the box would need to show signs of damage. Can you post a pic of the gauge?
Packaging was poor. It was stuffed in a small flat rate box. I have another one coming from another hamber and he sent me a pic of it working.
You never told us he sent a pic of it working till now. That changes a lot If it was just crammed in a small box, he probably kinked the line somewhere. If its not insured, and hes now not willing to help, you are SOL.
Please post who the Vendor was. Save some others having the same grief as you. Some of the members are here just to sell their stuff, and do not contribute anything else.
I'd take a close look at the gears and needle just to make sure they aren't jammed from shipping, especially since it was packed poorly.
