My shop, which coincidentally is for sale (along with a classic colonial home built in 1941) if anyone is looking for a place in Portsmouth, VA.

The trouble with threads like this is that I spend all night going through them, instead of going out to my cramped, cold and messy shop and getting stuff done.

Just a little tip. If you are building a new garage with walls and studs that will not be covered, paint everything the brightest white you can find and go overboard on the lighting. Also, don't use 8 ft bulbs. ( expensive )

Here's my garage. It's small, cluttered, messy, and real cold in winter. However, the mice seem to like it. The beer fridge is over in a corner and kept well stocked.

I have only owned this place for 1.5 years and the photos are from when we first got it. I am close to retiring and have many projects in mind. I am on the look out for a 39 Ford Pick Up and I want to do some work on the 72 F 250 as well.

Wow! There are some sweet garages here! Mine started out as a 24/24 garage with one light bulb in the center of the "ceiling"... I tripled the number of crossties, doubled some of those and tied the doubled cross ties to the rafters so I could lift bodies from the ceiling. Added 100 amp service... a lot of lights (important!) and outlets with plenty of breakers.
floor and wall space is at a premium! Part storage is in the garage attic (pull down stair access) and on the multitude of wire shelving. there is never enough room. Especially when it's winter and snowmobiles need repair! I clean when I start being unable to find tools... so I envy the guys with clean floors!
I added the 12 x 8 expansion this past summer, what a difference!

We were installing the auto garage door opener my kids got me for xmas,,that failed, the door hit the track when we went to open door so #1 son packed it all up and returned it to the Home depot. I've since moved the truck out and into a portable shelter for the winter to make more room to work on the car.

My garage is a huge 16 X 24'that I can JUST get 2 model A's in (with no fenders or bumpers) I have to back one in , then pull one in frontwards , and there's about 8" to get between the front tires.(easier in the summer with sneakers on). But ya know what? Still beats lying in the dirt! I keep thinking a smaller garage will keep me from having too much crap (wrong), and it's really a ONE car garage, but now I have three cars( I just sold one).I am really starting to enjoy the delicate balance involved in this "hobby". Back to the classifieds for MORE STUFF> Best wishes to all for a great 2014. Mike from Mass.
