Something was bugging me about this and thought that the rear of the fender should mirror the front-of-the-front fender.

 

Sorry...to my eyes that wasn't an improvement.

 

The rear fenders look like they are on backwards? Looks odd.

Yeah, I think you're right, making extended fenders was weird enough, trying to balance the fenders was too off-the-wall. I tried shortening the bed and though it helped, it still looks too odd, as Mr.Dickies pointed out. Sometimes you try something and it just doesn't work, but maybe someone else will have a better inspiration.

 

The picture of your car (which is amazing, BTW...if you folk haven't checked out his photos and build thread, you really should) was a little too fuzzy to use, so I grabbed another image off the interwebz...hope it's okay since all you need is an idea of the grill. Since the '40s Mopars have such a prominent snozz I added a nose piece from a '40 Plymouth. Also wasn't sure what you were planning for the chrome pieces so I kinda improvised.

Grafted the whole front end from the Chevy onto a '47 for your floating grill version.

Here is another idea for you. I took a 1948 Plymouth and substituted a '47 Packard grille.

No problem. Hope that the ideas are enough to give some inspiration. I know I miss the mark some times, but I have fun doing it.

Dave, I like that Packard grill; that's one exception to the "don't put a part on your car from a car older than yours" guideline.

 

How about a '51 Plymouth grill?


(I'm also working on a Chrysler grill, but won't finish it up until tomorrow or Friday.)

 

Anyone else with a better attempt? Too solid...

I know lots of guys follow that rule as it was usually (but not always) the case in the old days. I prefer to look at the shapes and find a harmonious design, regardless of the year. That's especially true in transition years (like 1947-1949) when body styles were changing, but not all in the same year.

You can get Photoshop itself from Adobe - the old CS2 version - as a free download.

 

GIMP is free, PaintShop Pro is about $60, and PhotoShop's pricing is odd...and expensive. Maybe you can find a older, used version from someone who has upgraded.
