A guy from around here (Northern Colorado) he had a couple total rust buckets for sell, his starting price was $ 3500. I'm sure most of the cars (rust) he bought at the Lambrecht sale is blowing in the wind on I-80 & I-76 between here & there!
They said there 15.000 people at the sale.

 

I saw it on the local news here in central VA, looked real crowded!

 

This is a 1917 Huppmobile which is part of a display at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans.

 

let's not get started on all the Nomads that were cut down....

I think he was trying to curtail the used-to-be-a-Nomad images that are usually posted after other wagon conversions appear...

 

Here's one that was saved, 57 Pontiac Safari, is now home with me.

Interesting dual side mounts on that 4 door 56 Olds.

 

This is among the weirdest things I've seen done to a car.

 

I think there must have been a Bimini top or something over those roof ribs? Maybe a Olds Daktari Rig, the windshield looks like a Jeep fold down? I almost like it ...

 

Those are deffinetly Artillery wheels and probably desireable to somebody, if you get the grille and decide to let it go, let me know. Ive always liked thise grilles!

 

There were 1,292 57 Safaris built, all in the US, while there were 6,103 57 Nomads made. Total 3 year Safaris built were 9,094 and 23,167 Nomads. 57 Safari's engine was the 347 ci. while Nomad made do with 283. The 57 Safari wheel base was 122 in. Nomad 115in.

 

I know where there's 3 safari's sitting and a 4 dr wagon, trying to get him to let me have one safari in trade for restoring him one using the other for parts

 

57 Safari....good save there...Fry/we did have a 57 blue Safari in our yard and he didn't want to part it out....one day big money came in for the tail gate....then...one day big money came in for a door ....it ended up of all things....with an Edsel wagon on top of it....sadsadsad...

so much wasted metal, saddddd thread but i cant look away.

 

Even if these cars are not restored, they should at least be saved for their unique parts.

That's one of the reasons why this hobby is so darn expensive...too many usable old parts going to the scrap pile just because the car itself is at a point past saving. The parts may not be concurs quality (for the show car crowd) but can be a project-saver if its not being reproduced otherwise.

I would bet every unique part jerked off an old rust bucket before it hit the compactor or the dust pile could be sold immediately here on HAMB!

I enjoy reading this thread even though its sad. But like the saying goes, you can't save them all. I wish I could. Maybe if I had Ted Turner money....

 

Nope. Check the classifieds. If that statement were true the ads would be deleted daily. Parts cars are for sale sometimes at less than scrap and still don't sell. It's a common remark that doesn't pass the $ test.
