O.K. Thought that might have been him. He also lives in Georgia, & is always going out West picking up COE's .

Yep, I'm in Burlington, right off the interstate. Is that your truck, in your avatar ? What are your plans for it, if that's it ? I did know of a '54 GMC COE up your way.

Yupp its mine had it for probobly 6 or 7 maybe 8 years but just really started workin on it earlier in the summer. What u know of one around here mines the only one I know of other than a guy here in town has a 55 ford coe custom. As for my plans itll be a flat bed unless I can talk a buddy of mine out of a wrecker he has then id put the wrecker set up on it but itll be ridin low it is pretty much lowered like 18 to 20 inches from its original hight just putting it on the 88 frame

  11. Just wondering if anyone has any shots of a late 40's early 50's Chevy COE with an extended cab. I've seen several crew cabs but can't rememer ever seeing just an extended cab, and I was wondering if there is a reason why no one has built one.

I have a chance to pick up a 48 Chevy COE with a beat up roof and back panel. I have a 48 regular 1 1/2 ton truck with a good cab that I could use to make an extended cab, and could use some ideas. I read somewhere on the internet that the truck cabs are the same as a COE cab, but can't believe that considering the wheel wells on the COE, but I would think the rear panel and roof should be the same.

There were no Factory conversion extended cabs, from info. I've had through the years. Only Factory conversion three door, & four door cabs, along with Factory conversion Sleeper cabs. I recently purchased a '47-'53 Factory conversion Sleeper cab. 78120896173_sleepercab-1_zps23b4e4c3.jpg

  13. I'm not looking for factory, but have seen many COE's with the cabs extended, but don't recall ever seeing a late 40's Chevy. I thought about a sleeper, but think I will go with a pick-up style bed, so the sleeper would be out of place. If I came across a factory sleeper, I would have to go with it though, and put a different style bed on the truck.

Yeah, this was available as a Factory conversion. A regular pickup donor cab could be used to extend a COE cab. 1954-Crew-Cab.jpg

You are correct rear panel and roof are the same. The lower cowl, doors and floor are different

I want to make a 4-door out of my 1955 Chevy LCF and run some kind of diesel with an automatic. Can anyone point me to a link/forum or anything else about someone who has done the 2-door to a 4-door conversion on an LCF? Since both the front and rear door post slant forward, I think will make it a little more of a challenge.

A magic wand would be more useful. Neat idea, but the scale (size) would be tough to pull off.

Pretty cool concept. I agree on the scale though, the body of the truck would need to be largely hand formed to maintain the Caddy lines, especially on the fenders and fins. As for turning radius I'm guessing it would be about the same as a school bus. Very doable for someone with deep pockets. A '59 Caddy COE ramp truck, can't get any cooler than that!

  25. Anyone got a Caddy they want to see get cut up? I can toss my Autocar sheet metal and put this on my chassis. Oh Wait, I've only got about 20 years left to work on it, maybe I shouldn't start over on a new project.

Thanks for the links. The first one had some photos in it I haven't seen before. The second link I have visited many times, in fact, if you look at the bottom of Page 2, there are photos of my 1938 Ford COE I did years ago. I was living in Niceville, FL then, but since have moved to KY.

  30. Bob, I checked out your 38 build, would you use the Dakota chassis again and how did that steering system work out?
The chassis I'm using for my build is from a fire truck I bought from the White Plains Kentucky fire dept.
