That reminds me of the story I was told by the seller when I bought my 2.02 heads. He said, "These have also been cc'd" and pointed at the factory relief cuts!
If I remember right, which is always iffy, when you bought a bare machined block at the dealer there was no stamping. No paint and covered in cosmolene in a wood box, and a bag with all the plugs. Only engines that were an engine ***embly had numbers stamped. Short blocks were stamped. Frank
Thought I would post a follow up on my C. L. 327 buy. After buying the motor something keep saying you need a car for that little motor. Me being a die hard 55 guy before you know it I'm looking for a new project. I tell you it's a sickness, but I'm sure you already know that are you wouldn't be reading this. Some. Pictures of the last year or so. Ron
H E L P there was a yellow 55 on utube 331? engine start up after a gazillion years where the kid making the vid yells at the dad GO... it was a real good sounding one P E R I O D correct for sure... 327 in the shed out back
First test drive on the car last Sunday. The roads were dry nice day for late December in Indiana. Was real pleased with the test drive other than the mic on my camera. The sound on the video ****s next time I'll try my iPhone. It may be that the inside of the car is like a echo chamber. Interior not started yet other than the front seats everything is open to the trunk no sound deadening. All that said motor felt good I had a little hick up after going around the first roundabout but that was it. I'm sure some better tuning is needed and the plugs are a little loaded up. I remember a solid lifter 292 I had way back use to load up bad needed cleaned out quite often. Another thing my plugs are a little to hot need to get some 44 or equivalent. Any suggestion will be appropriated. My plans are to get some miles on it finish the interior, bumpers and grill this winter. Hope to have it ready for spring. carpok, Ron ..........wow......very cool 55........you and I as well as most 55 owners think alike.....a 55 sedan with a 327/331 with Cragars is as good as it gets . Just like the ole days . I have similar plans for my 210.......been gathering all the goodies for a future build, also have a 55 Nomad and a 150 sedan g***er awaiting their turn for some goodies too. Thanks for the pictures . Greg
Don't know if it's gonna' work or not, but I was given an old 1968 327 with a pair of rusted stuck heads. I pulled 'em off to fix 'em but they were really rusty. I put this project on the back burner until last year when I found a slightly used pair of world iron heads with 158 chambers at a rummage sale for cheap. Threw this thing together with a thin pair of head gaskets, mother thumper cam, and a trio of 97's. Hoping for the best, but it's been setting in the ch***is since it was put together. Been told the compression may be a little high, but I get different numbers from different people. Only have a couple hundred bucks in the whole enchilada, so if it don't work I can just put these parts in something that will. Time will tell.
my new 340/327 bought new from Smith chevrolet in fort smith ark had an unstamped pad--- 1964 shortblock only...
Thanks SmokinBill love the nova really nice work. I've followed the build just never posted. All your cars are right on point. Ron
Got this for a set of tires- not with this intake.May go in the next build; 31 roadster- 1968 275 hp 327, P.G. ******, 10 bolt posi rear. ???? Dragstrip time?? Mike from M***.
Very cool find. In had a 327 in my 1st 57 chevy and it was a strong engine. I like the car you put in.
Sorry just two, Ron http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4yq70UswtQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=larn41m4OxQ&feature=youtu.be
Thanks Greg I know you from your posts on another site. I like your taste in cars I owned a 55 nomad for over 25 years. It took me that long to save enough money to finish it. There a great car but expensive to restore. I will always remember the story of your brother it's so easy for me to relate to. I'm sure he's always in your thoughts great memory's. Ron
Ron, your '55 looks exactly like the San Jose (CA) recipe for street racer '55 sedans in 1962-1965. A guy named Schwartz had a refrigerator white '55, 327/4 speed, 4.11, black steel wheels/black tires...said it made the car look "businesslike". A week later every '55 downtown was raised up (front spring spacers/station wagon rear springs) with black wheels/black tires! Decals on the rear side windows... I always liked the look.
Ron, you are right on the Nomad venture ........$$$......that is why it is slated for later......thanks for the remembrance of my brother Ron.....it is a bit tough these holidays......on a brighter thought about the 327's I think i have one for each of my builds , love that engine. Oh, just returned from a News Years cruise in a 62 Nova G***er SBC 4-speed tunnel ram , Cragars.......we woke up New Years day with a cool winter ride. I will try to get some pics up .
Are you sure it will clear the steering in a Chevy II? Reason I say that is because I had a 327 crate motor (CE) from 1966, & the original paperwork in the attached envelope stated it was an L79 replacement engine. It showed a different p/n for the Chevy II. I think there's an issue with the oil filter clearance Attached is a pic of my 327 crate motor - never installed
love 327's have two stashed as well (62 and 64) both std bore and complete but need rebuilt--both just p*** car 300hp
Found it - David Vizards book.. http://books.google.com/books?id=G2...ctor concerns blocks for the Chevy II&f=false Need block # 3791362
Thanks guys for all the comments. Would love to see some pictures Greg sounds like a cold ride. On the nova 327, back in the day I owned two 66 nova with original SB. The only differences I know of was front sump oil pan and pickup. And spin on oil filter other than that same motor. Thanks Ron Thanks Tjet I had know idea about the oil filter location differences
I have a couple of them that are '67-68 vintage and are excellent cores for future use. Just like $$$ in the bank. Got a newer 350 as well that will be up next for a rebuild. Bob
