I seem to remember that the '55 Ford has a chrome trim piece that goes around the entire grill opening that also fits the 52-54 grille opening. Also I vote for the 55 Plymouth grille, although owning a 55 Plymouth makes me partial to the look. Here is a pic of one of my favorites.
I borrowed the pic for a quick photochop. So thanks to the original owner and thanks to ss34coupe for posting. This bar would look good in lots of cars and is almost never used, probably since it's hard to find. It's unmodified. It's from an American car. Who can ID it?
I like the 55 Plymouth grille, had one in my 54 custom, but it seems that I am seeing them everywhere now. i just like different so I would choose something else Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
sorry for not having good pics but don't count out the '51 Plymouth and the '59 Ford grills, they look great in these also.
i don't mean to jack this thread but do you have any more pictures of your car? me and some buddies are getting ready to chop a 54 customline and have been trying to get ideas for that back window.
we're putting a 54 chevy grille in it too. I think that and the 55 plymouth are the coolest ideas i've seen.
Just got a 54 Desoto Grill. And my rear window is a 40's Ford window Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I personally love the '54 chevy...but I got a deal on a '55...it's better than the big gaping toothless smile I had for two years! Still on the lookout for the surround...and some additional fitting work...
Here is my 53. Cut center section and wrap around corners off original grill and reworked grill opening and stainless. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I liked this one the best . It's simple and it looks good in the grill opening Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I've yet to find a stock 53 grille bar that isn't rusted through.... I guess I'll HAVE to go custom with mine.
This is what my "new" stocker looks like. I have an idea to replace the center with a larger Dagmar-bullet. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It looks like some 000 steel wool and chrome polish could shine up the bullet, the rest you could get creative with some paint like below.
I bought a 55 Plymouth grille left side and a 56 Plymouth grille right side, assuming they were the same. They are not. I will try to post photos soon. Would anyone want to do some trading? I think I might prefer to find a 56 left side. It doesn't really matter. One way or the other, I need to end up with a left and right of the same year. I think these two photos help illustrate the difference in 55 and 56 Plymouth grilles. The 55 is in two pieces, to make the rounded part in the middle. One pic shows the grille extension. Looks like a cap. The 56 is all one piece. They also look a little different here and there, laying on the bench. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
This is the 55 grille bar. See how it is kinda cut off. It needs the extension to complete the bullet. At least this is how I understand it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Honestly I think 53 ford has the best grille. But a 54 ford grille with the bullet removed looks a lot like a Plymouth grille. And it’s a bolt in! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
