I'd like to know more about Jack Butler and where he digs up all these great old shots from.

For the racing historians, the front surfaces here seem to be covered in tape to protect it from sand blasting damage. What think? Did he try to take it back to the dealer on Monday morning "claiming" his wife didn't like the color and she wanted a different one? LOL. Gary

Once upon the time, there was a rallyteam in France with three Renault Alpines and six girls...

Walt Disney and "Lilly Belle" at his live-steam backyard railroad in Anaheim, California. The book "Walt Disney's Railroad Story" is a wonderful read.

And the man standing with him is Surrealist painter Salvador Dali. This photo was taken at Walt's house in Carolwood Drive in Bel-Air.

Guess it depends on what you had been hauling in that barrow, cant imagine a steak would be very tasty after having hauled a load of manure from the barn.

I've got a question for you older guys, in many of the pictures of downtown areas from the late 40's and into the 50's the buildings were absolutely filthy looking. At the time those buildings were not all that old, was the air really that dirty back then or was there some other reason they look so dirty?

She was probably nagging him when he lost control.

Ew. But on the bright side, easy to dump the ashes.

In some cities the air was indeed horrible , I think most of the grime in downtown areas was due to the close quarters and ordinary dirt, rubber dust, brake dust etc, had nowhere to go but up onto the buildings, maybe the roofs at best where the rain would wash it down the face. I can remember going to NYC as a kid in the fifties and the streets were quite dirty and grimy.

Coal soot. Everyone heated with soft coal, and that's when spring cleaning really meant something. You took the curtains down and washed them, washed the walls and ceilings, and hung the carpets on the line and beat the dirt out.

The photo film used back then also rendered colors differently. Red surfaces looked black, and orange and yellow surfaces dark gray. This made the photos look dull and lifeless.

Yep, When I was little (late 50's) I remember my mother using this stuff like play-doh to clean the walls.

That was originally for wallpaper, where water couldn't be used.
