Depends on the state. some you can, others you can too but have to go thru a broker.

Lot number 32164593. Actual onsite sale is Jan 14 but bidding already started online a few weeks ago and is sitting at $1150 last time I looked

I would be curious to see what the final bid is. I can see it going for about 1,500.00 but no where near the 5k some people have stated.
If it does get up to 5k It will really change my thoughts on the value of cars. Maybe im still living in the 80's LOL

At $1500.00, that doesn't even cover the upholstery job as long as you can get the front seat cleaned.

The problem with Co-Part auction is that there are some big money salvage guys out there. They decide they like it and buy it, no matter the price. It seems to bring big money on anything old and shiney. A lot of the late model cars go to Russian buyers.

This Merc is hit extremely hard and will have extensive floor pan damage . It will take some one with a special set of skills and desire to put it back on the road . If a car is in the salvage yard its there for a reason . Most common reason , it will cost more to repair than its worth . Cars are sold at salvage auctions to maximize the scrap value for the insurance company .
This Merc is a parts car at best. Save another with the pieces.

I want to move to a place where that car would only sell for $1500.00. a person would probably pay half that just for the doors.

but is that the color of upholstry you want in your car? Not my choice for sure, so it would have to be recovered. Could I sell the interior to someone? Maybe, but I dont have a place to store it until the right buyer comes along.
Look at the very first picture posted, looks like the top is buckled 12" behind the windshield, unless thats just the condensation line.

You know its easy for one to say heck yea its worth 5k you should buy it, but when its your own money your spending its amazing how the value deminishes......;)

wish we had someone chiming in that actually saw it in person to get their view on how much damage there actually is.

There is one on rt 10 in PA for 2k in origonal condition that would be a good start for a project. Looked half deacent from a quick drive by, but would need everything.......If i head back out that way, and if its still there ill take some pictures....

  12. I've been a frame guy at a big collision shop for almost 19 years. That car would not scare me at all. Even if the firewall and floor was crushed. You have to pull the body to replace the frame so it would be easy to straighten the cowl area if it even needs it. The fact that the door opens good is a big plus, so I wouldn't think the cowl area is too bad. I would be more concerned if the rest of the body was packed full of filler and the fact it has a shitty small block in it.

As a reference, I sold the doors (needing bottoms), the forward halves of the rear quarters (door pillars and quarter windows included) and the front seat of the car below to a HAMBer in Sweden for $1400. He paid to have them shipped to him and then built a beautiful chopped coupe out of these parts and a four door donor car.

I then parted out every piece of anything left on the car until it was nothing but a rotten floor and smashed frame. These are very desirable cars and this one is very fixable in my opinion. I'd LOVE to buy cars like the red one for $1500.

It does make me wonder if this car is actually a 49-50 Lincoln coupe with a Merc front clip though, considering it has the Lincoln tail lights and the jail bar rear window (which all 49-50 baby Lincolns had, but only '49 Mercs) although they are both a popular swap on customs.

Probably had a poorly installed camero front clip, that would cause substantial frame damage without transferring the damage throughout the body. Might explain why door still operates

I guess it depends who you are and what it is worth to each of us. I took my dad to an auction a few weeks ago that had some old trucks and tractors at. Afterwards he keeps telling his friends how expensive these trucks went while I'm telling my friends how cheap they went for thinking maybe the weather kept people at bay. I know one other guy must have thought they were going cheap enough too seeing they almost all went to the same bidder.

Squadblow, you didn't get that car between Janesville and Evansville by any chance? Maybe off of Hwy. H?

The smashed one came from Chets in Whitelaw, WI, which I think is County Rd. T.

it's been years since I been up that way so I don't think that is it now. it's actually also been years since I been to my land in the Janesville/ Edgerton area so maybe next spring i'll take a little ride, I still think the one I'm thinking off is down there somewhere or at least was.

Anybody has opinion about the 51 mercury roof on the auction site wanting $5,000 or offer? has 10 watchers I believe on it. or should we not talk about it seeing the other post about an item from there got pulled all together? I hate to see this thread get pulled because we brought something up on that other site seeing it is nice to get other peoples views or opinion on what something is worth

Let's forget about that other roof and keep the subject back on the red one at car port.

I think the floors are okay too from what we see here. I also do see the buckle in the roof. Wonder what caused the accident? Maybe Hiboy isn't far off on maybe a poorly installed frame clip? Looks like a decent interior to me, dash, nice quarters with skirts, trunk lid, back bumper, doors, glass, spot lights maybe, chrome trim. that's just some of the visible items not including hidden items like the gas tank and other items.

Maybe I will go up there on Tuesday just to take a closer look.

I sold a '51 2-door that was whacked in the front a few years ago. Not quite as bad as the one you show, but it was an unrestored, fairly rusty, original from the 'salt belt'. I got $6500 for it.

Well, I sold my 51 Merc Coupe which was basically a shell sitting on a stretched 75 Monte Carlo Chassis at the time for 4K in the mid 90's and that red car looks a lot better than it did from the firewall back. It may have some plastic mud in it but that isn't a deal killer either as that can be fixed.

My opinion... I would use it for parts for another car and not fix it...
Just a guess but I think it would need...
-Frame, I would replace the entire frame not just the front since it will be warped in the rear also.
-Engine, You can tell from the pics it was hit hard.
-Tranny and all attached, sure from the engine getting hit so hard it busted the tranny.
-All front sheet metal, which is a given
-Everything fenders forward, trim, wiring, bumper etc. It will rack up $ pretty quick.
-Floor pans, typically when hit that hard it will mash everything attached.
    - I wouldnt be surprised to see at least one of the quarters are warped pretty bad, Just not obvious since everything else is so bad.

If you had a similar car I would buy it, put it back and you may run into little stuff that youll need. (personally wouldnt pay more than a grand)

    My 2 cents worth

I think this car has a lot less "damage" than all those badly chopped and bagged lead sleds out there selling for $15-$20K.
If I was looking at this I'd ignore the front clip, frame and drivetrain. They're toast. I'd keep the old frame though as a source of metal for patching and making brackets etc. It's better than modern metal.
I'd be looking for good solid floors and evidence of badly repaired rust. In fact the accident helps view the forward edge of the rockers which rust out and are normally hidden. If inner and outer rockers and floor look good, check for deep bondo. If the body checks out it's good. Solid four door projects are out there for $1500-$3000. Put the two together and presto - you could even restore it to near stock, if the donor was complete.
And if the four door has a title, then a salvage title on the wreck isn't of concern because you'll just be using the body.
Just restored one of these in the shop. They're nicely built quality cars.
I even happen to have a spare frame for it.

Not much left thats savable other than parts. Wouldn't be a bad one if you had another roller to build off of. Don't expect to save that frame or body and 99% of Kustoms are full of bondo anyway so don't get your hopes up.
