hello! quick question.. using a chopped down 32 shell on a 28 roadster..the owner wants to use the stainless band that goes on the back of the shell, I have a repro one, obviously I'll have to cut this down and reweld the little bolt thingos on that tension it, but making the little piece that they bolt to on an original shell is a bit tricky..its a complex little shape..On an original it is a seperate piece that is spot welded on.. is it reproduced by anyone? I could make them, but if there is a stamped one available that will save time and money.. searched around..here and out on the interwebs but cant seem to find it.
I don't know the answer to your question, and I don't mean to hijack, but is that band of stainless around the back a factory part? I don't understand how you would use that on a car with a hood, and certainly Ford didn't make them to run on hoodless cars. Was thinking about putting one on my grille as well, I like the look, but had wondered about if they were factory or not.
Yep factory part. I have a genuine 32 grille that has never been painted or even had the rope hood lacing taken off, and it has one..very thin stainless,I guess its original function was to avoid chips from opening and shutting the hood. I guess the other way of finding out.. do any of the repro 32 grille manufacturers make one with this feature intact?
Thanks HRP. heres pics of the piece..a little hard to see.. Its part of the grille shell, but sort of looks like it was added on later in the production process as it chops into the three slotted holes that hold the lacing.
Thanks big deuce , that is the part I have, starting to think no one makes the little piece I need. Maybe I should tool up and stamp them and sell them to vintique, brookville, bob drake et al?? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I missunderstood the OP, thought you were looking for the band itself. Can you remove the spot welds on your repo, make the chop and fasten with some small rivets? no pop rivets
Big, it sounds like he is dealing with a grille shell that has had the lower sides trimmed off to fit on a Model A and he wants to recreate a mount for a shortened stainless. I have used the Vintique original style repro shell and it does have that mount but I doubt that they sell it as a separate piece. I'd bet that the Brookville uses it also, and I would be calling them to see if they can fix you up with a pair.
My repo shell has it also. Not sure of the maker...got it 2nd hand. It looks a slight bit different than your gennie but it works.
OK, just did a little searching and it looks to me like B'ville does not provide that feature on the filled shell.
My vintique shell has the provision, and I have the bottom half of what I believe is a brookville, or an off shore copy does not have the bracket your speaking of. Good luck, that will take some skills to make the brackets.
