I probably have the wire cover. The car wire covers are shorter than what is used on truck, ind., and marine.
I'm no expert, and my understanding is mostly with Chevys. On a small block, the guides are all lined up parallel with each other and were all drilled out on the same plane. The guides that are replaceable can just be pressed or driven out and the new ones driven in. ID is close to same as valve, honed and fitted for the valves after installation, and then the valve seating is done. On a big block, the valves are at different angles and not parallel or in line. When they were installed in the head, the ID was small enough that the guide could be gundrilled to the size of the valve stem using the seat as a reference to make the guide ID perpendicular to the seat. I am guessing the Hemi is similar to the big block and that's why they drilled them out and put smaller OD guides in. I'm not saying it's right, maybe they should have done it different. Like I said not familiar with Hemi's. I can tell you, I would have never allowed it to be done that way. Obviously the way these were done, the OD of the original guide will end up in the pan eventually. My 2 cents, Dan
Engine is getting double checked at a new shop and I have been fabbing and welding in a new floor. I got an idea for some custom door sill plates. Anyone got a set of "firepower" valve covers that are so bad u can run them. I wanna cut them up. I had a set but already gave them to the boss. Also mocking up the seats and I gotta do something with the position of the steering wheel. Thinkn bout cutting a few inches off the column. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yes....it has been awhile...I have been working on the floor while waiting for the call. I got the call today. The machine work is all done and ready....again. Gonna go get it tomorrow and start mocking up the engine...again.
Its been a while so heres a update. Got the motor back from the machine shop...again (cam bearings look much better) wasn't happy with my front motor mounts so I made some new ones, made a removable trans mount, Working on the exhaust now. Here a few pics
yea Im happy so far. Sometimes I get discouraged because I wish my abilities were as good as my vision.
nice hemi info... I am building chopped A on deuce rails and have a 55 331 ind hemi I am collecting new parts for now.. Have not approached the rebuild stage yet but was wondering who this Bill Maquinn you speak of? .. I am only about 2.5 hrs from Des Moines.. I have not found too many around my area I trust with an old Hemi especially the heads
Starting on finishing the trans crossmember...wanted to make it so I can remove it without removing a bunch of other stuff if ever need be. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Looks great, I know what you mean about getting discouraged but I think you will find that the more you attempt the more things you will accomplish that you didn't know you were capable of. This is certainly true in my case, I have learned to do more things than I could have imagined on my 52 pickup. You know the adage; necessity is the mother of invention, however in our case it is the desire. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!

Nice build, If I am reading right your block was done twice correct? Did the second shop find stuff wrong or fixed stuff for your piece of mind?
Yea the first shop did all the machine work and installed the cam bearings. They did and "OK" job and probably everything would have worked but I was uneasy about the cam bearings and a few other minor things so I decided to take it to a different shop and have them look it over. They did reinstall the cam bearings and some other machining and now Im happy. This project has turned into much more that just a rebuild and motor swap as you can see. Im anxious to get the car back on the road but don't want to rush things either.
Not much going trying to finish mock up so I can tear down for paint, chrome and all the good stuff Working on moving the inner fenders out. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
