Up date, the Philly Flash moved to Dunkirk, MD. Joe DeCesaris is the owner, but he is related to the Procopio family. Thanks

I am looking for pictures from Aquasco Speedway of cars that raced there in 1962 to 1965, particularly, a 1961 dark blue ford starliner named Thunder Road, owned by Wayne Armiger of Beltsville, Md. He was track champion several times. Any photos or info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Mike...Thank's for sharing the photos of Aquasco. That was my second home back in the early 60's. I had a 61 chevy 348 that ran E/S. Like Dave Hales said we ran on sat. night and slept in car and did it all again on sunday. We need a reunion somewhere in southern Md. Preferable one with a ABC license. Mike you are elected as the organizer.....JT

4. Thanks Jerry and John for bringing this thread back to the top. Hopefully some new folks who haven't seen it will chime in with more stories and pictures from Aquasco. I see that many of the pics from early in this thread have disappeared probably from being hosted on remote picture storing sites. Would be nice to see more pictures posted as time goes on..................Don.

6. John, Take a look at the current issue of The Rodder's Journal. There's an article and some pictures of the S&S Race team.

10. I have spent some time with the owner of Custom Speed over the years, and every car they sponsored had their logo painted on the door. The owners '34 Roadster and Jim Davis '32 Coupe had the logo on the doors. Never seen a decal.

Big Ed, I have seen pictures of the decal. Look up old racer here on the Hamb. He is a member of S&S and he can fell you in on decals for them and other local speed shops.

Old Racer....Do you recall a decal from Custom Speed Shop. What it looks like or did the shop have one. I collect decals from speed shops and drag strips.

I have decals from S&S and Big ED's. The other Speed Shop was Swartz Bros. in Alex., I don't recall the location or anything about them....Thank's JT Hope to see you and the S&S gang in 2004.

Anyone remember Jimmy Panagoulis' dragster at Aquasco?

13. .......Doesn't ring a bell with me, but that doesn't mean anything. I'll give you a bump back to the top and maybe someone else will remember him. Where was he from?

JT, I do not remember a decal from Custom Speed Shop, but that doesn't mean they didn't have one. The owner, Courtney Scott still lives in the Northern Virginia area. If anyone would have one it would be him....after all he still has the roadster in post #52 that he won the NHRA NATIONALS with in 1960.

Swartz Brothers was located on Mt. Vernon Ave in Alexandria. Smaller the Big Ed's. I have a Swartz Brothers Speed Shop sticker. I never got one from S&S. Dave, did you guys ever repro them or are any originals still available? Mike

Mike,

The S&S decals have never been reproduced that I know of. They are pretty rare, but every now and then one will show up on ebay. Actually, there are several versions: black on silver background (oval shaped), and triangular with 5 olympic rings on white background. The earliest version (black) had the phone number JE 3-9733, later had 533-9733. Probably the rarest of them all is the Black/Silver oval decal for the S&S Parts Company, Winchester, Virginia store.

Thanks Dave, I'll have to keep an eye out for the S&S decals. I guess Chuck doesn't have them anymore. Being sponsored by Big Ed's, I pretty much stayed loyal. But, we did go to S&S a couple of times and also stopped at Group44 racing too. One of my high school pals worked there.

[IMG][/IMG] I ran into the A-GO-GO that used to run at Aquasco and its owner at a local cruise in last weekend . Nicely preserved car. I don't think the pic is going through but...I tried.
