29AEEV8, I guess its not but that is interesting, I didn't know he designed the Flying Tail. That tail was made to keep the X-1 stable at speed as the aircraft stopped responding to the conventional elevator configuration, at Mach 1 I bet that was enough to soil your flight suit! I think the first production aircraft it was used on was the F-86 Sabre.

Given every other car is taped, the taped cars are probably being towed. Noses are taped to prevent rock chips. Gary

2013: the white service building in the background has been torn down. The historic brick station stands but remains fenced off.

 

Just a little bit of history trivia on the "Glamorus Glennis".The body shape was taken directly from the .50 caliber Browning projectile,as it was the most aerodynamic form for their needs,and would be the most stable.
