Vintage shots from days gone by!

    Regarding Chuck Yeager...a lot of folks forget he was also a WWII ace & hero. Made Ace in one mission, later shot down, walked out wounded over the alps. Remains the only pilot to fly actual combat missions in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. All while going from enlisted man to Brigadier General of the Air Force. Not bad for a hilbilly kid. Had the chance to meet him and shake his hand at Oshkosh many years ago. I count him as one of those few who made "The Greatest Generation" great. Are there any like him left today? I doubt it.

    (a water-cooled pushrod V8 w/ 4 (?) over-head valves ... approximately 1914/5)
    Recently added to the SDASM archive photo stream - 742 views atm and yet no-one has identified it.
    I've only found a reference to Curtiss developing but maybe not actually realising alloy heads, etc., for the OXX6 ... someone here able to solve a little mystery?
    (or at least attach the photo for me)

    sure i could be wrong but i'm also pretty sure there are two inlets hidden in there.

    In mid 1928 Ford started producing the Special Coupe which featured the long grain top and stopped producing the more traditional steel coupes until mid 1929 when they stopped making the Special Coupe. Production numbers didn't differentiate between regular and Special Coupes so it isn't possible to peg exactly how many of what type was made.

    Long story short; it is a Mid 1928 - Mid 1929 Model A Special Coupe.

    I love the way every Cold War era Russian car was "heavily influenced" by a comparable big 3 American style!! Nice try knocking off the Buick Le Sabre, comrades!

  27. Mr. Forestello in the driveway of his 1929-built home in San Antonio, Texas with his brand new 1933 Dodge Deluxe just purchased at Baker Dodge on N. Broadway. The 1917 Dodge touring in the family since new became their second car.

    Great lookin ride there. Really takes on a different character with the running boards pulled off. Sweet!

    Yep!---Not to mention those "Flipper" hub caps & twin spots!----That would have been a top ride back then!
