Anyone know of any? The only one I have been able to find in my area are a couple of U-pull it yards (Coltas, and Bryants) get if you are looking for parts for a Taurus, but if you are looking for anything pre 1970 they ****.
Let me know if you find one. I think any of the old stuff that was left around here in yards got crushed in the big Chinese buy up a few years back. I have heard of something up north though.
severs in LaSalle has very little left. Other than that I don't know of anything. But let me know if you find anything.
Try Ace auto salvage in Tonica. They have several yards that are only open certain days so need to call and get a schedule. I bought some stuff along time ago for my GTO. Nice guys but looks like a scene from Deliverance LOL.
There is a yard called MAW west a few miles from me that said this spring they're getting over a hundred cars between 1940-1980. I've been checking in at least every month.
Severs in LaSalle is owned by Ace Auto in Tonica. Was open every other Sat. last year. Talk to Mitch at Ace. He can let you know when they are open, and will know if he has what you are hunting. I haven't been in Severs in a couple years....not really much pre-war, but you may get lucky on something mid 40's to early 70's.
Around me (Elgin, IL) the yards are really "catch as catch can", meaning they bring stuff in all the time, move it along, and crush it when it's time. I've seen 50's and 60's stuff in there, some sticks for awhile, some gets crushed soon, I've never known the schedule, if there is one. Some examples: '55 Packard 400, complete w/engine. Looked like some old guy's resto project. He prolly died, family called the 'yard. '66 T'bird. Unknown, saw it coming OUT of the crusher. '70 Cadillac DeVille. Good parts, complete car. '78 'Vette 4spd. Complete car. All this in the last 4 years. My personal rule - go often. Don't ask, just hike up your boots and wade in. Cosmo
coultas isnt to bad ,they have pre 70's stuff from time to time. i scabbed some buckets from a early corvair out of there.
Problem with Coultas is that there is no organization to the place. They might have a few rows marked GM, Ford, Chrysler, but that stuff is ****tered all over the yard in no particular order also. At least Bryants in Westville was organized. All the old stuff was in the back. Still pissed me off that they crushed it all. They had a 49 Ford with a nice complete flathead in it. They wanted $150.00 for the motor. I kept telling myself I was going to get it, just so I had one, if I ever had something to put it in. I came down to get it one Friday, paid my buck to get in, and when I walked back there I was in shock, every old car in the yard was gone. They told me they crushed all of them. That was stupid.
