Saw the car but didn't know it was in the running, thought it was a roadster trophy? I was glad to se all the old Bonneville and Drag cars tho and even the room full of performance VW's.

Ya, that was the big killer for me. Everybody I know was givin' me crap about missing the VW room. Lots of people I knew from the bad old days had displays from what I was told.

Any open top car without door windows is considered a roadster. A Ford Model T touring car is considered a roadster even though it has 4 doors.

Tman, throw a picture up of them if you will, please. I think I might have breathers sourced, but different is better in my book...

    Hey gang,

Another step forward today. I had been wanting to do some wbbing in the seat of this car for quite awhile now, and I managed to get over to the upholstery supply place yesterday in my travels with Judy. What she doesn't know though is I only bought enough so far to do my side! I find it always helps to keep some mystery in a relationship, don't you?

I don't have to get too detailed on this one, but basically I Gacked a hole in the drivers side butt area, and called upon my underwater basket weaving skills, only this time above water. Along the line I swore and threw my two year old crappy staple gun across the yard where it bounced strangely and unexpectedly, and almost in slow motion tagged the roadster pickup's door and dented it a bit... One more to iron out, but at least at that point it was dead and I couldn't try to patch it back together and pinch my hand again when it "misfired"! Six blood blisters on my fingers is enough for one, one hour work period! See, sometimes having a temper and throwing thing DOES lead to good.

All that past, I'm off to run and get some aluminum to build the shift stick for Grant's truck, so I will get a first hand feel for how well this works on my beat and bruised backside. I'll let Judy suffer for a bit until I do her side, or maybe I'll get her to do her own side... HMMMMMNNNNNNNN!

Your butt will thank and Judy will eyeball you. Just sayin'. You're going to enjoy sitting a little lower.

Wow! What difference!!! Much much better! I think maybe I'll do Judy's side, if she is a bit nicer soon...

  15. So I'm curious about the process of doing this. Did you pre-weave the webbing together prior to attaching it to the seat frame, or did you attach one piece at a time and then weave the perpendicular pieces in?

I did mine, one strip at a time. Seemed like the logical way to do it. Staple each piece at one end, stretch and staple. I did horizontal first, then vertical, weaving accordingly.

Let me tell you a story about getting mad and throwing things.
When I first got my Roadster, It was an old show car, Total chromed undercarriage. I had spent the better part of a day polishing everything underneath. Took it for a spin and the radiator split a seam. Covered the whole undercarriage with antifreeze!!!!!!!!!!!! I was pissed!! drove into the garage, hopped out surveyed the damage, grabbed the first thing I saw, a 7/8ths open end box wrench. Threw it across the garage. Damn thing hit an upright and flew straight back and hit me right between the eyes!! Knocked me out!!
Now every time I think about throwing something that pops into my head and I put down what ever I was going to throw.

Ha! I still do, though. I have done almost as equally stupid in a moment of passion. Even worse, after I threw the damn thing trying hard to not hit anything, I might add, I picked it up and beat it to misc. twisted shrapnel with a 2lbs hammer. Every time I was trying to stretch and staple at the same time it would "skip" for lack of a better term, and go past it's usual stopping point. In the process it would catch the pad of my right middle finger in the handle... My finger is the size of, well.... you figure it out. Sometimes a beating of tools is completely justified. It tends to keep all the others in view in line too!

It was very nice to meet you to! I'm sorry I kinda stuck myself at the other table so we didn't have too much time to hang out that night.

Hell yes I'll be there on Saturday! If you have never been to Albert Eschenbaugh's deal, you haven't lived! I need to introduce you to Albert Himself. Cool guy from head to toe, and he lived the Fueler wars of the sixties, when it took a wheelbarrow load of balls and no small amount of crazy just to get to the other end of the track!

Wait, WHOSE car is this? Okay, fine, I'll admit I'm building the seat in Victoria's car to fit me at 6' 1" and hope she (5' 5") can reach the pedals with a few phone books...

  23. Just mount 2 sets of adjustable seat tracks in it. One in the normal position with the handle at the front and a second set underneath that one (might have to recess the floor some to account for the extra height) with the handle in the rear (so she can't accidentally grab it and end up in the back seat while driving!). ;-) I feel your pain, had to buy a car with the 2 driver seat position memory cause I can't even get in a car after my wife's been driving it without moving the seat back!

Ahhhhh, the ultimate "short girlfriend, tall boyfriend" story happened with Judy's predecessor. This gal was a solid 4' 11", and after several attempts to take her out, she finally agreed on the condition that we meet some where and go from there. Okay. I can work with this. So we meet at the time and place, and of course I was in the Plymouth, and she was a bit nervous about that. She then asked if I would mind driving her car to our evening... Now, normally I would have said something about my distaste of Hondas and such, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and I agreed. She handed me her keys, I opened her door for her and closed it behind her. Her face lit up! Feeling smug I made that short walk around to the drivers side of her car and jumped in. Once in and settled, I marveled to myself just how small this thing really was, and stuck her key in the ignition.... That's when all hell broke loose! It had a memory key that adjusted the car to her personal settings at the time it was twisted in the lock. Her being 4' 11' and me being 6'1", this didn't work so well. before I figured out what was happening, it trash compacted me against the headliner and windshield and pinned my knees under the dashboard, to the point where I couldn't reach back far enough to pull the keys out and release myself from this diabolical pile of dungs grasp... Quite the auspicious first go 'round, right? If I gave you guys the full story of getting this far with this one, you would either think I'm the most tenacious person in the world, or just stupid... I'd probably vote for the latter myself!
