    I will take two piles of crap please. Car is coming along quickly so I would say it is already quick. :)

    Looking real good, I like the fact that there is a budget and your really making serious progress. I'm watching over on Bangshift too, can't wait to see you hit the track!

    Got the floor sitting in place again and tacked at the rockers. Need to make some new frame rails to fill in the gap in the back, and get everything patched back together.

    I think your particular Nova is a great choice to do the altered wheelbase thing with! Would be a shame to cut up and alter a nice rust free car, and much of what you're doing will allow for rust repair at the same time, so a win-win situation.
    It's definitely going to look much nicer when you're finished, and have saved it from the scrapyard!

    I'll just use flat sheet metal to fill it in. might put ribs in it, might not.

    trunk lid is likely to be hinged with no torsion bars, bracing cut out to lighten it, and I'll add a handle to make it easy to open...and a prop rod to hold it up.

    I'm going nuts on weight reduction. Free horsepower. But I haven't got any fiberglass parts yet, I'm trying to keep it all steel. I got a used set of bumpers from a friend...each one with brackets weighed 22 lbs. I trimmed the rear brackets down, and got a new repop bumper for the rear since it was bent up pretty bad (new one cost around a hundred bucks) and it's down to 17 lbs with the cut down brackets. One case when thin chinese metal is good. I'm planning no front bumper.

    got the floor filled in the trunk, and also in the former rear footwell area, where it was kinda rusty.

    Looking at front wheels....found some new 15x5 aluminum slots for a reasonable price, but I'd sure like to find some old ones, 4 or 4.5" wide, for a half reasonable price.

    Yeah, I lucked out at one of the Pamona swap meets and got a pair of Ansen sprints for $120. Actually $200 for all four but I didn't need the rears (7").

    The relocation looks good. Are you moving the wheel well or stretching it?

    I am planning to just take a radius chunk out of the wheel well, leave the original notch in back. It'll look funny...and weigh less...and take less work. Being a lazy, cheap ass who wants to go fast, that's the perfect solution.

    Nice work Jim! Coming together quickly! Those skinny 15" slots are tough to find, and always a bit spendy. The skinnier they are, the higher the price goes! I was lucky to find the 15x3.5 Ansens for the front of my Austin, but had to give $350 for the pair, which kinda hurt.

  24. Does not look that odd till you have a go at the exterior. Are you planning on closing some of the rear any? BTW, The floor looks great!

    I was planning on leaving the rear of the wheelwell alone. Once I radius the front around the tire, we'll see how it looks....subject to change without notice.

    I think I'd just cut the radius and then fill in the body behind to match the radius, not try to make it look stock. I think some of that flat sheet would work just fine on the flat Nova body.

    Hey Jim,

    I have a question about the two trunk filler panels that you made (post #173, top picture). How did you form the gentle radii at the top and bottom edges? I'll be making similar patches for my 41 so I'd appreciate any guidance! Granted mine will just be plain ol' rust repair, not wheelbase alteration!

    I just found a piece of tubing about 1-1/4" od, clamped the metal to it with vise grips at both ends, and bent it.

    Outlaws are a couple decades too new....but if you have any aluminum slots about 4" wide, I could sure use a pair
