I bought this a couple of weeks ago. In 1946 only 96 Mercury utes were built. This one is body number 67. It has a 400 Cleveland, C6 and later Ford rear. I have been told some '46, '47 and '48 Mercury utes are in the USA.
Hey, With as much "Yank'' iron as has been shipped "down under'' in the last twenty years I think you should export that one asap! Very easy on the eyes, that one! " Life ain't no Disney movie "
No, we still have too many jappas per head of population both here in NZ and our other island West New Zealand that some call Australia. So I think it can stay put for a few years yet. Midroad, you have a very nice ride in that pickup / ute so you enjoy it. The T Bucket in your picture looks really cool too, is that yours too as a garage companion for the Merc. ?
Been here longer than 70 years. I have a 1946 Mercury coupe but there's a trunk on the back.....durn it! That's a great car....coupe...Ute.
Unfortunately I sold the T a few years ago. I've always regretted selling but new hot rods cost money.
Everybody I asked told me Graeme builds a very good car. They were right. Drove 850 kilometers home with no problems and super comfortable.
my 46 ute here in aus, will post better pics next time its out of the shed. View attachment 5619508 View attachment 5619508
Maybe because that's the utilitarian part of the vehicle and they didn't want to go to go flash back there?
it was a work ute….. Quoted from wikipedia, and as I have always understood it to be…. Ford Australia was the first company to produce an Australian Coupe ute, which was released in 1934. This was the result of a 1932 letter from the unnamed wife of a farmer in Australia asking for "a vehicle to go to church in on a Sunday and which can carry our pigs to market on Mondays". (although, some say the first one was built in 1932)
This gets quoted all the time. Quite frankly, it sounds more like a line from the marketing department.
