No its my Charger with a 383 it had an offy duel port and I switched it out for a torquer.

  3. The torquer IS better, but a Performer RPM, would whoop the torquer.

  4. PS. 66-67 Chargers are my favorite year. Just missed and all original 67/440/auto a few years ago.

I am running a shoe string budget race team and that intake was a 40.00 swap meet score.
We have had a lot of fun with this car doing all the cheep things to make it faster.

I was wondering what kind of time can you run with a passenger. I know they said you could take a pass with a rider but not a full pass. So was curious what time is good. 12s 13s 14s 15s?

  8. That's pretty cool. Its always very rewarding to make the most out of what you have. Which carb do you have on there? My uncle used to tow his 55 Chevy B/Gasser with a white/red interior 383 66 Charger. I remember him bracket racing the Charger once at Irwindale after he blue the granny up in the 55.

It has a 750 holley with a pro form center this has been the best one I have tried yet.
Its fun to try all the small things to see if makes it faster or slower.
I used to have long pipes on the headers maybe 3 feet long and car would run 101 MPH I changed them to a 9 inch pipe and it picked up to 105.

4mph is Pretty huge gain. You can take a torque tube like that, spray it with some cheap paint, make runs, then cut it off at the point where the paint burns off at.

I believe it is 14 with a passenger...balls to the wall until half track then let off....and coast thru if your car is faster then 14 normally.

    Anyone planning to attend -
FREE pre-registration is a MANDATORY requirement with a pic of your car and your name address etc..... send these to meltdowndrags@gmail.com

If your buddies plan to attend and have not yet registered please have them do so sooner than later.....

Great to see the other guys introducing themselves and talking about all times on their cars....
While the Shootouts are fantastic to watch or participate in they don't take 3 days...so if your on the fence about attending....ANY period correct car is welcome to race, so if it is 10 seconds or 17 seconds we assure you...you DO NOT want to miss this and you will find people to match race with....get out and talk to guys watch some racing or have your buddies help you find a match.....so much more fun when you run side by side down the track...AT ANY speed...than winning or losing by 10 car lengths.....
I was talking to Jon and Joel about this earlier this week and they both agreed there are A TON of cars that run 12-17 seconds that are BEAUTIFUL fantastic cars...you guys are all welcome to attend and you will REGRET not doing it...just sayin.

I ran the roadster last year at a blistering 18.23!!! Yes my brother kicked the crap out of me with the GTO but it was a thrill just to go down the track. Since the roadster is no match for the GTO we started competing in reaction times, which I beat him 4 out of 5.

I made a pan to fit the carb that goes bake to the fire wall and sealed to the hood if you look at the picture of the car you can see that the back of the hood is up that's my poor man cowl induction it picked up 2 tenths when I did that.
I used the bottom of one of those ford alum air breather bases to get the pan on the carb probably not the best radius but the money was wright.

  19. For any of you Gasser shoot out dudes that are excercising your hole saws, I recommend Milwaukee or Bosch, or any "bimetal" versions. They are holding up much better than the cheap Charlie brand.
Koop, my dad ran his scoop backward back in the day, to draw high pressure from the base of the wind shield. When he did this the car picked up two tenths & 2 mph. He was driving moms old 56 wagon in the rainone day, and noticed the rain being pushed towards the front of the car, from the rear edge of the hood. Then he remembered that Chevy put the foot vent grill/opening there. Those old blunt nose cars are all the same, the air hits the front of the car, bounces up into the windshield, and packs up at the base of it. I'll bet you one of Jonny's microwave burrito's that he keeps in the glove box of "Rotund Orange", that if you turn your scoop around, or take it off, the car picks up.., wait, what the crap am I saying, I'm supposed to be kicking you guys butts, not tuning you up.., "you never saw me, and I was never here.

  20. You got it! I ran the back of the hood up on all my cars, front in alignment shims work great. Back in '90 when I worked with Dick Gazan, and we built the Spectra Racing 66 Chevelle, I jacked the back of the hood up at the second race we took the car to (Super Chevy Phoenix Az.). Dick hated it, said it looked crappy (I always thought it looked cool), but he didn't hate it, when it also picked up 2mph. Have you ever had a starting line/bleach box guy, try to push the back of the hood down, and "fix" you "screwed up" hood hinges?, happened to me with every car.:)

I think when they look at my car they think man that guy needs to learn how to do body work.
I think my next steps will be to put it on a diet and I have some adjustable rocker arms too try.

  22. It has a solid or hyd cam?

  25. stock rockers are horrible as far as ratios being correct, and usually on the low side by a whole ratio, or more. After market adjustable versions are usually pretty good, and if they are aluminum, usually a little on the high side to make up for deflection in the rocker. Anyway, you'll get more from your cam if the ratios are actually 1.5 or more. Do you adjust the to rocker, zero lash, & 1/8 turn, or?

  27. I have a '68 Buick Sport Wagon 400/340HP. I'm building a 454" (4.250 x 4.00) 430 based engine for it now (don't want a thin wall 455 block). Should make 600+HP and about as much torque and put the fat wagon in the 10's with the A/C on. I wish it was done, it'd be something else to flat tow our '56 Gasser across country to Byron with it, just like they used too. Maybe next year.

Anyone else who is wondering if they should bring their car because it is not "fast"....BRING IT! I have a 55 with a small block and a 4-speed that is just a daily driver. I drive it 100 miles to the Meltdown, run 15's and then drive it home. The most fun I ever had was racing Smokey Moe's 55 Chevy nomad where nobody ever won by more than 3 tenth's of a second.

All period correct cars are welcome, regardless of speed.

Some of the closest races were the slower groups and it does not matter how fast you are because when you are side by side its a thrill.
