    "Koop, my dad ran his scoop backward back in the day, to draw high pressure from the base of the wind shield. When he did this the car picked up two tenths & 2 mph. He was driving moms old 56 wagon in the rainone day, and noticed the rain being pushed towards the front of the car, from the rear edge of the hood. Then he remembered that Chevy put the foot vent grill/opening there. Those old blunt nose cars are all the same, the air hits the front of the car, bounces up into the windshield, and packs up at the base of it. I'll bet you one of Jonny's microwave burrito's that he keeps in the glove box of "Rotund Orange", that if you turn your scoop around, or take it off, the car picks up.., wait, what the crap am I saying, I'm supposed to be kicking you guys butts, not tuning you up.., "you never saw me, and I was never here. "

    I totally believe it would help....dam shoeboxes...if they just weren't so neat...LOL<!-- / message -->

  7. I built the 727 in it, so I can tell you its an automatic.

    Powerplant may be top secret....:p

    That sounds like a fun ride man!Youre gonna love the gear change....it will make the car feel like it has 100 more cubic inches outta the hole.

    I think we could keep the folks on the edge of their seats with a little best-two-outta-three action!:)

    The rockers are the crane cast rockers another swap meet score not sure on the adjustment yet will have to play with it. I was thinking of changing them out at the track so I can see what it does for me.
    I have as much fun working on the old turd as I do hammering the shit out of it.

    I love the "slower" cars. Everyone fixates on the fast "Gas" stuff but in reality the vast numbers of 50's and 60's racers ran Stock, Jr Stock and "lower" gas classes. Many with cars right off the highway.

    The ingenuity and liberal interpretation of the rules made for some intersting combinations.

    Anyone remember John Dianna's 56 Panel "Truck" with the 4 speed Hydro and dual 4 barrel 265 ? Or Dave Koffel's Flintstone Flyer 4000+lb Packard

    One of my favorite cars from the last 2 Meltdowns is a certain Patina Green 56 Pontiac wagon... I'm all over that... then there was the tire melting 51 Chevy that made about a hundred 21 second passes. Those guys more fun than legally allowed.

    If you would put a mopar performance purple shaft cam in it even with everything else stock it will wake that 400 right up I had a 64 afx dart with a 76 no compression motor home 440 in it and a 727 with 3:50 geared nine inch in it and it went from 14.50 to 13.30 just with the cam change I have run a lot of different cams in big block mopars on a shoestring budget and I firmly believe that mopar performance purple shaft cam part # p4120235ae was the best bang for the buck plus I drove that dart to work every day for three years plus hammered it every time I got in it and never had a minutes trouble probly was the most dependable cars I have had and if I was easy on the pedal it would get 14 mpg I miss that car but like my Willys better lol

  25. Put a dial indicator on an intake spring retainer, turn the engine by hand ( much easier if you take the plugs out), the indicator will show your actual net lift, divide your net lift by the lobe lift #(.326 for a .490 cam w/ 1.5 rocker, and you get your true rocker ratios.
    Then check the exhaust too. Then swap on the Cranes and check again. If they are better, just go with em.

  27. Be careful you don't punch out your Rotunda tach, or rear view mirror. For you Willys pilots out there, if you plan on using the "top secret" Koop-O-shift move, careful you don't knock the windshield out! :)
