Hello,my name is Marc,i live in Holland,Europe,and i'fe hung around here on and off for some time. So now i think it's time to post my currend Chevy project. A friend of mine offered this coupe for sale to me,but at that time i stil had a other project that wasn't getting close to finnishing for at least 5 more years of work, with my working pace!!! So a deal was struck ,i first had to sel that project while he hold the coupe for me. I found a buyer and bought the coupe.plus lots of extra spare parts.
My plans for the coupe are,to make a reliable and hop in and go! car out of it.so that even the missus can grab it when ever she wants. I had a 54'' 210 chevrolet with the factory 235 engine,6 volt installation,un restored but running condition,that was a******! now and then to start and drive !!!and this car must be differend. Between selling and buying the project's ife started tearing down a 350 small blok to meet my requirement of reliabilty. Cleaned,replaced bearings seals and so on,and a fresh coat of paint. This was done last winter.

Had the car on the lift,test fitted the engine with trans mounted. Removed the front sheet metal,and had to cut off a small strip from the crosmember to clear the transmission pan and fasteners,
For now, want to keep the stock suspension,exept for some lowering front and rear. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Testfitted the engine and trans agian and mocked up the "new" 55 Chevy rear axle and drive line with the old leaf springs,and suprisingly no need for shortening or adjusting and seems to bolt up right away instead of the old closed rear axle.
So now i know that everyting line's up,it's time for the big tear up,and the let's scrape away al the tar rust and road debri,picked up over time.

We're twins! I too have a '46 Chevy coupe and am leaving the stock suspension. I just installed a 235 from a '61 Chevy. I'll keep tabs on your progress, good luck and hope to see it roadworthy soon!
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the stock suspension...my brother's '47 Chevy has been running the stock suspension for over 30 years now and it's been driven all over the US...the only thing we did different was putting 50's Chevy 5-lug drums and bearings on the front... R-

Thanks Hi mistr Heaps,i stil have to get Dutch registration papers for my car,and till then ,not more than 30% of the car can be modernaised to fit in regulations. I think I would like here more about the 50's drum swap as I have a 37 chev and the suspension looks the same.
OK guys, it's quite simple really. Most GM stuff (especially Chevy) will interchange...all you need to find is early '50's five lug drums...I think we used '51 Chevy drums on my brother's '47 - the front drums of course, but I think '50,'51 or '52 Chevy front drums will fit...and the ball bearings will as well. You can retain and use the stock '46 brakes with the later drums and will still be able to adjust them like original...and the 5-lug wheels will match up to any '55/'56/'57 Chevy five lug rear end you put in. I think we used later steel five lug wheels but that shouldn't present a problem finding those. FWIW, we drove his car all the over the US for quite a few years and never had a problem with the brakes or the wheel bearings. My brother's Chevy Aerosedan is up for sale right now in case you know of anyone might need a car like that...balanced 350" engine (approx. 24,000 miles on it), dual exhausts, T-400 automatic *******, '57 Chevy rear-end, excellent chrome, really nice interior and CD player...
